In my humble opinion the 3rd one that is "The Meaning of Life" you could probably skip if you want. It has a few funny moments but I didn't find it all that good. It also has a ton of that commentary type bits in it similar to "The Life of Brian". "The Holy Grail" has always been my favorite.

Oh the genius, I heard that the "Bigus Dickus" scene was almost entirely improvised by Michael Palin. The actor playing the centurion wasn't supposed to laugh, Palin just took it from there, you can even see him almost break himself when he's right up in one of the other centurion's face. The show was awesome too, not every bit was funny but some of them were hilarious. Btw, you may already know but the animator, Terry Gilliam, was the only non Brit in the group, co- directed the Holy Grail with Terry Jones, who directed this one. Gilliam went on to be a great director (IMO), he made Brazil, Time Bandits, the Adventures of Baron Munchausen, and my two favorites of his, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and 12 Monkeys, all great.12 Monkeys is Sci-Fi and was sort of Brad Pitt's big break, he was known as a pretty face already but it showed he had some range, that movie is definitely worth checking out.

Oh shit, I forgot George Harrison was in this, he played one of Brian's followers, just saw him. You might already know, but Holy Grail was funded largely by members of Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd who were big fans of the show. I think Harrison had something to do with this one too but I'm not sure.

The Meaning of Life had some good parts but on the whole I'd say it's not really in the same league as Grail and Brian. I remember I loved the one bit, a segment really, which was directed by Terry Gilliam and is a good sample of the kind of work he'd go on to do directing.

This movie is all you need to know about the origins of organized religion. Monty Python was about the most intelligent comedy you're likely to ever run across. Check out their "Meaning of Life" sometime. I would rate their movies as : 1. Life of Brian 2. Holy Grail 3. Meaning of Life Their main fame came from their TV show, "Monty Python's Flying Circus". Check it out if you like really intelligent British sketch comedy. Plus they have a few recorded live stage shows that are well worth watching, (again if you like sharp witted British farcical comedy. And why wouldn't you?).

Actually Monty Python's first movie is 'And Now for Something Completely Different', which is essentially Monty Python recreating all the best comedy sketches from the TV series in an attempt to break the American market. It's still funny in its own right but Holy Grail and Life of Brian are definitely the highlights of their movie career. Meaning of Life is very divided among audiences, it isn't bad but I just think it was not what audiences were expecting with its darker tone after Holy Grail and Life of Brian.

In 2011, they made a TV movie about the massive social reaction that the movie provoked. "Holy Flying Circus". Describes the story of the release of Life of Brian ... in the "documentary style" of Life of Brian, as it were. Absolutely hilarious!
