I rank this film equally with John Carpenter's The Thing. This film, however, having been released a few years before The Thing, had a much more... profound... effect on audiences.

My own personal opinion is that you should watch Aliens, but stop there, and go right into Prometheus.

If and when you watch Aliens, please make sure it's the extended director's cut. James Cameron had an uphill battle with the studio to release his version (which thankfully they eventually did four years later), and is definitely the far superior cut of the film.
