R.J.Anthony

Really is one of th best cast's assembled and a very underrated movie. Also knew this would George's kind of movie.

Joe Williams

To answer George's question about accuracy, the Blu-Ray had audio commentary from Professor Brian Cox. Really fun to hear what was accurate and what was filmmaking purposes.

Richard Burrell

I’m so glad you guys reacted to this - it’s an incredible movie. In my top 10 of all time

Nikodem

I am soooooo happy that you enjoyed the film. I was one of the people that wouldn't shut up about the movie in the comments :D Now I can rest! :)

Matthew Johnson

"That degloving may be the worst thing I've ever seen in a movie." Oh, George. Don't ever watch GERALD'S GAME. (edit: watch GERALD'S GAME!)

Grandalf

100% ! GERALD"S GAME and HUSH are both Mike Flanagan films that you guys should watch.

Jeff K

On the subject of Hiroyuki Sanada: I hope you guys check out Shogun at some point. It’s fantastic, and he’s incredible in it.

doe555

Im so happy you did this. I saw the movie when it came out and it blew me away. One of the most underrated sci-fi movies in my opinion. The music also allways gets me.

Anna Kyruin

Let's all be honest. If this were reality Icarus would have no people on board, and there would be hundreds of units on standby. It's the end of all life. Sending a single ship and having it full of people would be ludicrous in terms of resource requirements relative to utility.

LPWVIII

Glad you got around to this and loved it, watched it on release was young but knew this was something special it's always stuck with me and will always recommend it especially to Sci-fi/horror heads..... The acting all across the board the score which now has been used in practically everything, a pretty floorless film easily in my top 10 and prob my favourite Danny Boyle film the guy hardly misses

R.J.Anthony

Couple of other good sci-fi/horrors are Pitch Black (2000) and Event Horizon (1997) which i hope you watch someday.

Bob Bittner

Just curious (and off-topic): You have so many Patreon supporters, I’m wondering why a lot of the same names are always mentioned in your outros. (And , no, I’m not waiting to hear my name! I’m waay down the list.)

Monica Alarcon

Those mentioned are in a higher tier. They pay more to have their names mentioned at the end. I did it on my birth month and had some fun with the names and stuff...

HansD

According to the story Humanity mined all the fissile material on Earth to make these two bombs. Icarus II was our last shot. No way we would have sent it on its way on Tesla Autopilot alone.

Steve Boshear

I love this movie so much and I haven't watched it in so long. I'll bet my son is old enough for it now. I'm gonna make him watch it with me.

Dan Holmes

I'm so happy you watched this, I hope now you can see why so many preferred this to win over Bad Boys lol (though i can't wait for you to watch Bad Boys 2) I'm so happy you liked the 3rd act, so many don't get it I think this film is layered with spiritual themes and to make the villain of the final act on a "mission from God" to destroy the attempt to save humanity is interesting and symbolic. One of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen with the most beautiful scores. PLEASE check out a similarly beautiful film with similar music, visuals and themes by Darren Aronofsky called The Fountain. So underrated. oh and Stranger Than Fiction too :) EDIT: oh and in the final scene I think it is one of the most beautiful moments of "poetic license" ever filmed, and such a beautiful Final Moment for a character and a human's life. Also they are in Sydney Australia in the final snow covered shot in case you missed it :)

Dan Holmes

agree on the people but in the intro of the film i think he says they mined all of earth's natural resources to make the second bomb; so hundreds would be a bit difficult lol EDIT: oh just saw the above comment lol

Anna Kyruin

AH, I must have missed that. That sounds unrealistic given the size of the ships.

Dan Holmes

I've seen that and don't remember a degloving, guess i gotta watch again lol But yeah they should totally watch that :)

Dan Holmes

same, i was only worried he would hate the ending like so many unfortunately do. So glad they got it :)

Dan Holmes

I can't even count how many people i've shown this film to. so good, so underrated.

HansD

The most unrealistic part imho is that they made provisions for a return flight for the crew. In reality this would be a "Kamikaze" mission, and you would want that kind of fatalistic dedication from the crew. "We've built this nuclear bomb the size of Manhattan Island and we want you to ride it into the Sun." -- "Hell yeah! It will be one hell of a ride."

Ral Zarek

Totally random but I highly suggest watching the new Animated Transformers One movie. It is really incredible and a fun watch, and I'm not even a huge Transformers fan!

Galactic Cannibl

Is it possible you could create a montague video of the movie scenes that made you 2 laugh the hardest?

Ari Ramirez

This movie became a tiny bit less sad after someone pointed out to me that the spacesuits look like Kenny from South Park, so I can't help but to hear his gibberish noises whenever they're on screen.

Jonny Campbell

knew you guys would like this one 🙂

jherrerakamin

oh my god you guys are champions, I LOVE THIS MOVIE

Jinyatta

George must have been a cosmonaut in his previous life.

R.J.Anthony

Would be a lot of scenes from In Bruges, remember them laughing a lot at that one.

ShoNuff3000

Elon Musk just messaged me. George, he wants to send you to Saturn...one way.

ASMRish

Will there be a full version? It's one of my favorite movies.

REDR58

How about *Elon* goes to Mars right now like he keeps saying he will?

REDR58

They also probably never would’ve named it “Icarus” in the first place with people on board they expected to return.

I was always bummed that it didn't get more love at the time but it has aged very well and it like a cult classic, the visual effects stand up very well. I think every actor in this has been in some Marvel movie except Mark Strong who went the DC route. He played Sinestro in the ill-fated 'Green Lantern' movie and the big bad in the first 'Shazam' movie. Mark Strong's performance in this film is what made me look for his name in the credits back in theaters. It's rad that this cast is all like fairly big actors now. His best work has been in stuff like "Tinker, Tailor..." or more recently in 'The Penguin'. Like many of the actors from this flick, even as a supporting character they tend to be dope. He is terrifying in this movie. Benedict Wong has been quietly awesome in every movie I have seen him in since 'Dirty, Pretty, Things" when he was like an embryo. I am happy he has gotten so much more visible since joining the MCU. Michelle Yeoh was already an action god from here HK films, so I was just happy to see her do something different here I love her character. Hiroyuki Sanada was also already an established actor in Japan, but had only been cast as the Samurai or Yakuza dude in western roles. Danny Boyle's knew 20+ years ago that he was more than a random samurai and It is a bummer it took so long for something like 'Shogun' to make folks realize that he THE guy, and deserves to be top of the call sheet. First thing I saw him in was twilight Samurai", one of the best samurai movies of the modern era, imo, worth a watch. Cliff Curtis is hella prolific but is also super consistent. His role as 'Uncle Bully' in 'Once Were Warriors' was so affective it was hard not see that character for a long time but him as 'Smiley' in 'Training Day' is probably the most memorable at this point, again because dude gets a hand full of scenes and just few lines and made a dope character. Rose Byrne and Chris Evans have had much bigger careers but even outside of their big flashy parts in Marvel projects, they are just good actors. Sad, creepy girl in space Rose Byrne will be my forever crush though. All of the collaborations between Danny Boyle and Alex Garland are solid movies, imo. The one I never saw was 'The Beach' but I should go back and watch it, I was tired of seeing Dicaprio's face back then so I avoided it but I bet it I'd dig it.

Ryan Alexander

Best version of Adagio in D Minor

Rachel W

SO SO glad they finally got to this film. A beautiful movie. Please do another Danny Boyle film, "127 Hours"(2010) which is a sort of horror of an entirely different kind and a true story. For another beautiful sci fi film that I don't recall seeing mentioned here before--Darren Aronofsky's, "The Fountain"(2006) starring starring Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz. Really makes you think.

Mike FromOz

I don't know if anyone caught it, but the building in the background of the last shot where the woman and kids were is the Sydney Opera House, Australia. The last recorded snow fall there was in 1896, and it was so minimal as to almost be unknown to most people. That gives a visual indication just how cold the rest of the planet must be, as Australia is not known for its snowfall. Only very few select areas get any at all.

Arthur

I'd like to take credit for this recommendation. Please tell me I'm right.

Arthur

You wanna know what it's like when the sun's dying? It's called Canada.

Adam Wetstein

best twilight Zone ripoff yet

Kron0n

End gives me goosebumps still.

ShoNuff3000

I think Simone would do fine in space... provided she was a crew member on any incarnation of the Enterprise.
