Phillyman!!

And Simone you don’t need to watch anything else of Godzilla you just saw the best Godzilla imo. Can’t believe this had a 12 million dollar budget. Graphics are amazing 💯

This was amazing. Such a great story. Amazing thumbnail, I laughed so hard.

Smiffy

Good movie, but painfully overrated.

I've only seen a handful of Godzilla movies (1998's American version and the new Monsterverse) before watching Minus One this morning, I actually got this notification about 15 minutes into starting it, and I can't say any of the others matched this on an emotional level. I do enjoy the monster verse a good amount but it's just popcorn fun (which isn't a bad thing IMO) but this movie felt like it had real stakes and emotional weight.

So, the current Monsterverse is as follows: 1. Kong: Skull Island (set in the 70s) 2. Godzilla (2014) 3. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (tv series which jumps timelines between just after Skull Island and just after 2014 Godzilla) 4. Godzilla: King of Monsters 5. Godzilla vs Kong 6. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire The only one that I don't like and I'm in the minority here is the 2014 Godzilla that kicked off the monsterverse. It had the problem that George brought up with Planet of the apes in that it focuses on humans and you barely see Godzilla. Maybe 20 minutes of the movie if not less is actually about Godzilla.

Oh, no, I think most people, especially Godzilla fans don't like the 2014 Godzilla. It gets points for not being as stupid, embarrassing, and having as awful effects as the 1998 Godzilla, but its focus on bland, uninteresting characters make it a chore to watch. Godzilla-1 shows you can focus on the human characters and make it interesting and moving when the writing and acting are done well. As for the other Monster-verse movies, I only also don't like the most recent 2. I don't HATE them, the fights are fun and captivating, but the human stuff is really dumb, bordering on insulting.

Japan’s stance on their crimes in ww2 is ignore it completely. It never happened. Anyway, I personally dig the Shin Godzilla design. It’s like a cancerous mess of a monster with killer thighs.

Since it wasnt commented on during the scene or in the discussion I would just suggest to the both of you to rewatch the final hospital reunion bit, there might have been a signifcant detail you missed ;). As far as other Godzilla Movies go, apart from the Original only Shin Godzilla rivals this one. In my personal opinion, Minus One is the better movie, while Shin is the better -Godzilla- movie.

I thought same as George re: Godzilla is so far out of the water. I guess his thicc ass is bouyant?

Jonas Gade

With Georges comment about personal feelings about the Japanese during/after ww2. Has there been any thoughs about watching something like "The Eight Hundred" or "Flowers of War"?

Mike FromOz

Simone: Woah, Godzilla is really scary! George: Look who's a chonky boi 🥰

Sevnthdragon

I like the American Godzilla (2014 and beyond) … mostly in that he moves terrestrially a bit more fluidly and his face is more animalistic.

Civil Hooligan

Please give Shin Godzilla(2016) a chance it's a great body horror take on Godzilla

Origins and Symbolism: Godzilla was initially conceived as a metaphor for nuclear weapons and the devastation they cause, particularly reflecting the experiences of Japan during World War II and the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
