This is the first time I see someone interpeting Katoa’s death as something he chose to let Bobby do. That’s interesting. I personally think he got distracted because the Venus construction at that point is done and starting to leave the planet. We know all the PM is connected, and he knew about the work in Venus. Other interpretations are that this is his first time outside, and he got distracted by space being awesome. The authors don’t offer any clarity here, so we’re free to read this however we like.

Yeah, I lean on the side of the hybrid being basically controlled to pay attention to the launch. Like you said, it's all one hive mind and such a feat would be pretty distracting to things also being told to launch itself off a planet. The hybrid already proved it would defend itself so for me it's pretty set in stone Draper got lucky on the timing of the blue goo's completion of the work. You can't stop the work and I guess defending yourself from a threat takes a back seat to a command from blue goo HQ. What ever was left of Katoa in that thing wasn't going to be enough to influence it's actions anymore, we learned from Strickland that communication with Katoa would cease to be possible. Once it takes over completely the link between human speech and the hivemind seems to be ended since the host has no more control.

I was watching the show along with you for the first time, but a few episodes ago I couldn't help but race ahead. This season is so juicy!
