Soul Lore #1 (Patreon)

I'm gonna start making occasional lore posts on here now, starting with this introduction to how souls work in my world!

Souls are typically not visible or tangible, but due to a catastrophic event that permanently changed the state of the world millennia ago, souls are once again able to cross into the same plane as their physical shells. This is newfound connection is why "magic" has returned in many parts of the world. Those with a strong innate connection to their soul can draw it out and siphon energy from it. It can be dangerous however, as the longer a soul is exposed to the physical world, the more it destabilizes and runs the risk of decaying beyond repair. This usually ends in a soul going supercritical and vaporizing everything within a large radius around it, but if a soul is forced to exist in the physical world beyond that, in an improper stasis, it will become corrupt.
