The guy that Ichigo fought in the human World didn't absorb a hollow, he was one of the arrancar that was survived being captured in Hueco Mundo and forced to join the Quincies. He basically just stopped identifying as a hollow when he joined and believed he was better than regular arrancars since he was "chosen" to be a part of the Quincy Army. So basically a race traitor. The other guy that the Quincy King killed in the throne room was also an arrancar which is why he didn't hesitate to kill them. Also don't disregard The healing skills of Squad 4 Captain Unohana. She's the greatest healer in the soul society and is the second oldest captain behind the Head Captain. She's also the one that kept Hyori Alive and reattached her lower half after Gin cut her in half from the waist down.
