Byakuya and Kenpachi are petty as hell for fighting each other in the middle of the fight with Yammy! I love how Byakuya kept that calm voice of his while being petty. Petty Byakuya is funny lol. And then you have Mayuri just watching the shit. That would be me honestly lol.

People often feel some kinda warm and fuzzy way about Tousen & Hisagi’s relationship as Captain & subordinate. I always thought it was pure evil. By now, we’ve seen that the prodigies/ highest seated /most promising students of the Academy in the time since Aizen became a captain were Hisagi, Momo, Kira, and Renji. Every one of them ended up under Team Aizen. (Like Momo, Renji was originally chosen for Aizen’s squad, but it was clear Renji couldn’t be easily controlled, so Aizen transferred him to Squad 11, where he probably hoped he’d be killed, but Renji got the hell up out of there & became Byakuya’s VC.) What’s insidious about Hisagi being under Tousen, is as we saw in Pendulum, Hisagi’s hero was Kensei, who saved his life from a Hollow when he was a child (The reason for the advertising on his left cheek). Inspired by Kensei, Hisagi worked his way from one of the poorest sections of Soul Society to become one of the highest prodigies in the Academy, only to serve under the guy who not only “killed” his hero, Kensei, & took over his squad, but spent his entire time breaking Hisagi’s brave spirit (Li’l Hisagi saved his friends, trying to fight off a Hollow with a stick!), & making him fear his own sword, spouting some BS fake philosophy Tousen doesn't even believe himself. Imagine what Hisagi could’ve been in Kensei’s hands? Or in Byakuya’s, or any other Captain who didn’t have a vested interest in weakening Soul Society? All the Academy prodigies who ended up as Team Aizen subordinates are mental & emotional wrecks with hobbled powers… just as Aizen planned.

Damn…I never thought of it that way. Lie I knew Momo, Kira, and Hisagi were affected mentally by Aizen’s team…but the way you put it…holy crap.

Thank you for the kind words, Earphone Jack. This is the result of almost a decade of (ongoing) pointless analysis at work. :D :D :D But really, compare Hisagi, whose skills were so massive, he was offered to be made a seated officer before he graduated the Academy, to Renji, who also had high skills, but apparently not at Hisagi's level. Hisagi ends up in Tousen's squad, and is shown as a crying, pathetic, fearful mess that Tousen had to mould (Into a pathetic, fearful mess of a VC). At this point, Hisagi is so reluctant to pull out his Shikai, because he can't control it, and admits to being afraid of it, and the other Shinigami around him are like, "Finally!" when he uses it against Findorr. Hisagi's Kazeshini is one of the coolest, deadliest weapons in the Gotei 13, and the guy not only can't use it properly, but actually says he hates it. (To that end, I really hope that when Tre & Tasha finish the canon run, they'll also watch the Tales of Zanpakutō arc 230-265, which is semi-canon.) Even before Renji joins Squad 6, he has a single-minded purpose; to surpass that darn Rukia-adopting Byakuya. Renji -- the only Academy kid not under the control of Team Aizen -- achieves Bankai before any of his former classmates, including senior prodigy, Hisagi. (I always thought it was hilarious that the minute Renji achieves Bankai, the first thing he does is run out to kill Byakuya with it. "'Preciate the 3-day Bankai, guys. I gtg RIP my captain now, kthxbye" :D) Also, despite their trying to kill each other, Renji stays Byakuya's Vice-Captain (I always wondered how/why "Prince" Byakuya agreed to have this scrappy street orphan, Squad 11's 6th seat, as his VC in the first place?), and Byakuya actually seems proud that he has the only VC with a Bankai. Really, it is a(nother) huge indictment to the shockingly slapdash way the Gotei 13 -- the Soul Society's military/security/policing operation -- was run. No oversight was given to how the different Squads operated, or the development of the Academy graduates (Bearing in mind that Yamamoto created the Academy, there should've been someone to ask, 'It's been decades since they've graduated, why don't these most promising students, Hisagi, Momo & Kira have Bankai, yet?'). People don't like to criticise Yamamoto, but man, did he run a slack ship. There were no basic standards, drills, wargames, progress reports, meetings, etc., and we're told the different squads might not see each other for decades (centuries?) unless there was an incident. No wonder it was so easy for Aizen to play everyone like a fiddle; sabotage the Seireitei from the inside, and set up a whole shadow kingdom in the enemy's territory.
