This post is especially meant for people who have just joined my Patreon and are in need of orientation, although even old friends and aficionados might find it useful to have most of the essential information and the links gathered in one place.

Patreon allows for exactly 1 pinned post, so this will be the one that's always at the top of the list. I will try my best to keep it up to date with all the changes that I make to the mods and in sync with my other posts; please bear with me though, as it might take some time to get everything organized.

IMPORTANT:This post has now become obsolete after the release of AER v2. At some point in the future it will be archived and replaced by a new one; for the moment however please refer to my latest entry at https://www.patreon.com/posts/108541039 for the new information and the most recent download.

Where is the mod? Which games are supported?

I will keep publishing dedicated posts each time a new release comes out, but from now on, for convenience the latest version of the mod will always be attached here at the bottom too.

Of course you'll need a legit copy of the original game installed on your system in order to be able to play it in VR with my mod. Legal notes: all trademarks belong to their respective owners, and I am not affiliated in any way with the developers or publishers of the games.

Support for more titles will be coming in the next months!

I also have an older conversion for No One Lives Forever 2: A Spy in H.A.R.M.'s Way that predates the Patreon and can be downloaded for free from my GitHub repository.

Additionally, my VR framework was able to connect to a few well-known games by Rockstar and 2K, which people loved to play in VR with the help of my mods, but following a DMCA notice issued by Take-Two (owner of Rockstar and 2K) they are no longer supported in any way. If you wish to play those games in VR, you can sign the petition, try to contact the publishers asking them to allow my mods, or if you're very patient you can wait for official ports.

Quick Setup instructions

Installation is very simple!

  • Make sure that the game was run flat (i.e., not in VR) at least once, so that it could create your user profile.

  • Unzip the archive attached at the bottom of this post into the game's .exe folder, being careful to preserve the folder structure. In other words, don't move anything around manually, don't flatten the folders, and don't put the mod into its own subfolder: RealConfig.bat must end up at the same level as the game main executable. If you are upgrading from a previous release you might be asked whether to overwrite existing files, in which case you should answer yes to all.

  • Then run RealConfig, which will automatically select graphics settings known to work correctly in VR and finish installing/configuring the mod for you. NOTE: if you omit this step or ignore any errors that the batch file reports back to you, the mod won't work correctly, even if you are just upgrading from a previous release.

  • Only for Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, you'll also need to adjust the launch options to make the game use the DX11 renderer: more information here.

The original posts for the various games come with LOTS more information on how to get the most from your VR experience, and on how to troubleshoot your installation in case anything goes wrong. Each post is tagged with the games and categories it discusses, so it should be easy enough to find information.

How to temporarily deactivate my mods to play pancake

In case you ever want to play flat (boo!) you don't need to uninstall anything, much less to reinstall the whole game(s). With just a couple of simple steps you can easily prevent my mods from attaching and return to your original 2D graphics settings.

In Windows, open the folder where the main game executable is found, and make sure that you can see file extensions so you're not flying blind (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PoTah9YBG2Y if you don't know how to do that). Then:

  • for Horizon: Zero Dawn, Cyberpunk 2077, Dark Souls: Remastered, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, Ghostwire: Tokyo, Ghostrunner and Stray just rename dxgi.dll to dxgi_bak.dll

  • for Elden Ring instead you need to rename 3 files: dxgi.dll to dxgi_bak.dll, start_protected_game.exe to start_protected_game_bak.exe, and finally start_protected_game_ori.exe to start_protected_game.exe

That is enough to play flat. If you also want to restore the original graphics settings that you were using before you installed the R.E.A.L. VR mod, you can go to the folder where the game stores its setting and manually replace the current settings file with the one RealConfig saved for you:

  • for Horizon: Zero Dawn go to %UserProfile%\Documents\Horizon Zero Dawn\Saved Game\profile, then delete graphicsconfig.ini and rename graphicsconfig_ori.ini to graphicsconfig.ini

  • for Cyberpunk 2077 go to %LocalAppData%\CD Projekt Red\Cyberpunk 2077, then delete UserSettings.json and rename UserSettings_ori.json to UserSettings.json

  • for Elden Ring go to %AppData%\EldenRing, then delete GraphicsConfig.xml and rename GraphicsConfig_ori.xml to GraphicsConfig.xml

  • for Dark Souls: Remastered go to %LocalAppData%\FromSoftware\NBGI\DarkSouls, then delete DarkSouls.ini and rename DarkSouls_ori.ini to DarkSouls.ini

  • for Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, Ghostrunner and Stray there is no need to restore anything manually, just use the game menus to change back the resolution to your favorite one

  • for Ghostwire: Tokyo go to %UserProfile%\Saved Games\TangoGameworks\GhostWire Tokyo (STEAM)\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor (or the equivalent path if you don't have the Steam version), then delete GameUserSettings.ini and rename GameUserSettings_ori.ini to GameUserSettings.ini

Hope this helps... but seriously, why go back to 2D when VR is so awesome?!?

As soon as you realize the error of your ways, to get into VR again just follow the Quick Setup steps outlined above as though you were installing the mod for the first time :-)

I had the game working perfectly in VR in Windows 10, then windows forced me to upgrade to windows 11. Now when I launch the game it opens the flat 2d version (with no VR menu overlay or VR connection through Oculus launcher) I've tried re-installing the game and re-applying this patch. Same issue. It's almost like the patch isn't there at all.. any suggestions?

CP2077: PLAYING IN PANCAKE MODE NOWHERE NEAR THE VR EXPERIENCE! I have been playing CP2077 with the VR mod for so long that my brain just doesn't accept this game in any other mode. It is impossible for me to go back to playing pancake. Due to the CP2077's new update, the vr mod does not work for now so I switched to 2D just to see how the game plays... and it looks like playing with a long cardboard box with my head on the closed end and the monitor being the open end. Like I am looking up from the bottom of a deep well. I forgot what the difference this mod makes. ... it is night and day. I feel so restricted in the 2d. Crazy! VR gives such freedom! Hope Luke can repair the mod for CP2077 soon ;)

I am running a 4090...Thank you, that worked to launch both titles into the Index! Hogwarts seems to function and look as it should. Is Spiderman supposed to look like you're seeing through a wide angle lens all the time? It's very disorienting when turning your head to look around. Doesn't feel at all like the other titles. Just want to make sure I haven't missed something. Please advise, thanks!

Make sure you have window selected in the launcher options and that the resolution there is the same as your monitor which is hopefully at least 1080p. If the resolution is not the same, change to full screen in the launcher and pick your monitors native res then switch back to windowed. The Spiderman games have some odd issues with resolution even outside of VR. Also, you may need to disable DSR if you have it enabled in Nvidia control panel for the Spidey games to work properly. Sometimes the view will be odd when you hit adapt resolution but if you change the ppd slightly and hit the button again once or twice, it should adjust correctly.

Hey, has anyone had any success getting Cyberpunk to run in VR since it that patch hit a few weeks back? Right now mine just goes to flat mode. I tried renaming the sl.interposer.dll file as suggested above but currently that just causes the application to fail to load. Running a 4090 here. Thanks!

I've been running the mod successfully with multiple games on my Valve Index. I just unplugged my Index and plugged in my Pimax 8KX to see how it would look/feel - I can't get any of the games to launch in the HMD, though I am in SteamVR Home in the HMD, and the games are launching on my desktop (with the REAL overlay popup at the top of the screen as it should be). Please help, thanks!

I believe Pimax uses the oculus runtime to fake a rift s with Real. Do not start SteamVR before launching and make sure you have the runtime set to auto in the Real overlay. I don't think you need to have oculus software installed. You will also have to use parallel projection except maybe for Cyberpunk, not sure on that one. I know CP has the ppd function for Pimax so you can set it for the canted displays but I have never used Pimax so not very familiar with it. It may depend on what version of Pitool you are using as well as there was an issue with one version but I don't know if it has been updated since or you still will need to use a previous version. A good place to ask would be the Flat2VR discord in one of the busier Luke Ross threads. Hopefully some Pimax users will have some good advice for you there.

Hi Luke, Downloaded the mod. Installed fine with the bat file. However Cyberpunk does not load in VR just in pancake mode. I used a nvidia 3080 and use a metaquest 2. I have both the oculus run time and Steam vr installed. Please help. Thanks!

I just upgraded to a new pc from a 2080 card with win10 to a 4090 card and win 11. I sub again so I could get the latest mod with aer2.0 however after doing the same process I always do on my old pc by copying the files over to the exe location and running bat file it doesn't enter VR. I can hear the sound in my quest 2 but it's not entering. Does this not work with win11? (Edit) This is now working somehow.

In the logic of the pinned post, could we have a sheet per game detailing the graphics options to be activated / disabled to improve VR experiences? I had a lot of exchange with Brandon to improve my experience on Cyberpunk 2077, I added Mods from vortex, improved 4K textures, change DLSS version etc .... A kind of product sheet per game with configurable options and non-configurable options... So small configuration then, so big config then etc..

Well, if you are looking for Lukes recommended settings, that is the basic idea of the config file which is usually included. It does not cover everything and I don't think Luke really pours over mods and visuals for each game, it is basically a good starting point in terms of performance. I have thought about doing something per game that is just my own preference as to best visuals/performance but it would just be my own preferences really. However, a share of users don't really seem to even read the whole release post or pinned post before asking questions or for help with getting a game to work..... so I am not really sure how much it would actually help :) If you check out DR. Greg on Youtube, he has some vids on Cyberpunk that could be helpful, I don't really prefer his settings myself but that is always going to be a factor for people when others give their preferred settings/mods.

Today you provide a qualitative service of follow-up and response to users, I think that you would still gain in quality of service by this simple presentation of your preferences / tricks, mods, textures etc... in any case personally... I would love it :-). I think the basic configuration file gives the general operating framework, the game sheets are for those who want to go further in the experience... After that it's work and time... small idea for a additional service (which could also be paid for... personally I would go from 2 to 3 euros more/month in addition to Luke's mods to have the best possible experience on the games.... To have.... ;-) I am preparing an explanation for you to be able to use the valve index controller as an Xbox360 controller. It's super nice on Cyberpunk, hyper dynamic and allows you to play this game standing up, and moving like a real VR game. (Excuse me if my english is bad, i'm french ... )

Your English is definitely good enough to get your point across :) I do need to get into making videos though, so maybe I'll do a general settings video on things I think are pretty useless in VR that eat up performance. I think people get caught up in playing things on Ultra and Max settings without really comparing or testing what those settings actually add to the overall image or feel of the game. For instance, Having Postprocessing turned up in Atomic Heart is pretty useless as its effect on reflections doesn't really add anything but creates a lot of extra artifacts to surfaces. The overall image has less artifacts if you turn it to low (I don't think there is an off) and things will actually look cleaner to a degree. It really depends on the game but there are general things to look for and turn down to get better performance to spend on resolution or something else that actually looks better. Also, please use the reply button to keep things organized better :)

Anybody knows how to add custom resolutions? I would like to use 3072x3216, this is the 'godlike' preset in Virtual Desktop for Meta Quest 3. Adding them to Nvidia control panel did not work for the Mod. Even though it works for flat games.

I think the last publicly stated plan by Luke was to work back through some of the other Far Cry games. He was working on FC5 before the CP expansion but had run into some issues with odd design choices the devs made, like not putting the horizon point of the camera at the actual horizon point but somewhat below it.

Where are the instructions? How do I turn it on? How do I play in VR? How do I access settings? You only provide how to install it, but no instructions about how to actually use it.

If you install it, you should just be able to start the game as you would from your library playing flat. Connect your headset and make sure it is on, launch from library and it should enter VR. It is always a good idea to check the games release post first for install instructions etc. I'll link a post that somewhat explains the AER rendering modes and then Mono is just the render from one eye so no Stereoscopic 3d. Anyone tried Luke's mod with VDXR? I have reprojection issue when turning my head. When using Virtual Desktop, Oculus mode is fine, steamVR mode has some jitter, OpenXR mode has delayed double image in one eye.

Another question, In CP2077, why is the 'render resolution' showed in UI so low compared to the game resolution? When I set game resolution at 2736x2736, the render resolution only shows 1824x1824. I output the game image to OBS, and saw there are lot of space is not able to see in the VR fov.

If you are using an Oculus headset, then Oculus is the pick. I also get issues on everything but Oculus on my Quest 3 with VD these days. I actually need to hit up the VD discord and see what changes they made recently. I heard something about adding in OpenXR toolkit support or something like that.

For Hogwarts the UI is too close and all the prompts on top half and bottom half of the game HUD are not visible. Tried with 10.8 version as well, same problem. And the 11 version just crashes. Please help resolve. Really love the CP mod, and enjoyed the game. Want to see the same for other games

Any tips on how to temporarily disable VR for Hogwarts Legacy? I'm doing the astrology class missions now and I can't use the telescope in VR to save my life; much like the map screen, it is impossible to move my head/the camera/cursors correctly while looking through the telescope.

Playing VR Cyberpunk, when playing in any render mode other than mono my gun (and a few other things) get this massive and distracting sort of ghosting around it (looks like there's a giant, semi-transparent copy of my gun overlayed on top of my actual gun, which is really unfortunate because I think the 1/2 and 1/3 rendering modes have a way better feel to them. Anybody have ideas on how to fix?

First time trying to play with your mod when i open the .bat its says the folowing :ERROR: This folder does not seem to belong to any of the supported games. Please make sure that the mod zip archive is extracted to the very same folder where the main game executable is found, and not for example into a subfolder. Aborting RealConfig Press any key to continue . . . and if i try as and administrator it says this :ERROR: Mod installation files not found. When unzipping the mod archive, please make sure to overwrite existing files and to use folder names (preserve the zip folder structure). Aborting RealConfig Press any key to continue . . . i transfered the internals of the file direclty to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Hogwarts Legacy where the .exe can be found with out changing any order

You need to drop the mod files further into the folder structure. HogwartsLegacy/Phoenix/Binaries/Win64 That is where the actual .exe file is located. Some games have multiple .exe files but the one that actually launches the game and is not connected to anything else will have a larger file size.

While it would be cool possibly, it would be possibly a lot of work for a somewhat short experience. I haven't played COD in like 3 years though so I don't know how long the single player campaigns run now. Although I could see people constantly asking about multiplayer if Luke did a mod for one of them. Forbidden West is a far better choice :) I can't wait to dive into that in VR, hopefully there are no big issues that keep it from happening!

Everytime I launch Cyberpunk 2077 with this mod (which is giving the overlay so it is in the game) on oculus quest 2 it only uses keyboard controls and completely ignores my controllers.

Wired or wireless? What kind of controller? If you are using Steam, you could try going into the controller settings and disabling Steam Input, choosing use default settings and/or making sure you have Xbox enhanced support or whatever it is called added. If you are using an Xbox controller. I have had to disable controller support and then enable again before to get my controller working properly. If you are talking Quest 2 motion controllers, there is no motion controller support for Luke's mods. They are K/M or gamepad only.

Well, if you have no interest in learning how to use it or you don't have a fairly decent GPU from the last couple generations, just delete the files with the name real in them as well as dxgi.dll, opvenvr_api.dll and cudart64 files. VR mods will usually take some tinkering to get the most out of them though. Just fair warning before trying other people's work and then getting upset if it doesn't look like native VR automatically. If you want to switch back and forth, just rename dxgi.dll to dxgi_bak.dll to disable VR.

Hi I just started playing Elden Ring, so far its awesome. I have a question on the backup saves option. Apparently, the game already does auto save every few seconds/minutes even without Lukes backup saves so I am not sure what the backup saves are doing differently? As an example, I thought perhaps if I set it to save every minute, then 10 minutes later, I would have 10 different saves to choose from which would be awesome but I dont see that to be the case? Can I get some clarity on how it works? Thank you!

For Final Fantasy 7 Remake is there any way to lock the up and down camera. I find it very annoying in battle against larger foes and i only need left and right.

So just joined and DL'd the mod and Elden Ring is working great! Thanks Luke! I'll be trying out CP2077, and Horizon ZD and others later today. Any chance that this mod will work with Armored Core 6? Or if there are plans to support it? AC6 is built on the same engine as Elden Ring etc. and I'd LOVE to see that world in VR!

Horizon Zero Dawn not working. It crashes on load at the splash screen (very start). I had to remove your mod and keep playing flat. Any help?

Lets see when they will release the DLSS Frame Generation on Cyberpunk to main public soon and what FPS gain it will bring on top! showed some good fps gains on the beta youtube testing channels. Currently I run perfect 90 frames in benchmark with max res 3900x3900 , DLS Quality and most settings on low with 4090 Strix. Looks great already!

I've been messing with the slider in Real VR and got it to around 4533 x 3088( somthing like that) and around 70 fps. Anyone know why the slider won't give equal resolution in each eye? The right number is always lower. Can the in game resolution be change higher than 3900 x 3900. Or can Luke change that in an update?

Hi,Luke. I played elden ring with the latest mod in my latest PICO 4 VR Headset. The horizantal view is quite normal, while the vetical view only have images rendered in the middle, that means the bottom and top parts of the screen in my headsets are completely black. I reviewed the log, and find the realvr detected my vetical fov corrected, it's 105. I don't know why the bottom and top parts of the my view is completely black while the horizental view is normal. Do you have any idea about this? can I tweak some config file to change the render region of my handset when working with realvr? I have noticed that the game crashes for me pretty consistently if there are enemy bodies in the vicinity. I don't know if that could help narrow down my issue.

Cyberpunk. Basically it seems I can wander about the world but when things get more interesting, say I get into combat or something involving scanning/drone stuff, it tends to crash fequently.

You could try checking your crash logs in the appdata folder to see what kind of error you are getting when you crash. What kind of hardware you got?

so how does it work, fully legit website? you can a key and can download from STEAM as if you bought from STEAM directly , so it in your STEAM library like a standard STEAM game purchase?

I have been using it for a couple years now and never had any issues. You get a game key and then register with whatever platform you buy it for. Then you own it like any other game. The only down side is that you can't refund even with the 2 hour grace period on Steam. Of course be careful that you are actually getting it for Steam or whatever platform you want and that it says it is available in your part of the world. I would gladly play either of those. I played God of war for like 30 hours and then my saves wouldn't work so I just decided to wait. Was really good but I didn't want to do the mountain trials and stuff again. I would gladly give it another shot in VR though :)

Yeh both games are great. I would enjoy both in vr god of war would be awesome. But for me uncharted makes perfect vr sense ! Anyway by the time luke releases the next game ill have the awesome htc vive xr glasses !

What an interesting choice - for pc vr? Give us feedback how and if these work. I am kind of over my heavy quest 2. pico 4 is consideration if the jitter is fixed. Aaaaand RETURNAL. dropping in 3 weeks ! Too many awesome titles coming up

Yeh man ive ordered a htc vive xr and the dream is to take off the battery attached to its back, and just use them as the cool lightwieght goggle type glasses they look like ! As in stream steam vr thru virtual desktop while the glasses r connected with a wire to a powerbank plug type thing. Thats the idea and i think it can be done from the reviews ive read. I dont really enjoy the sometimes annoying nature putting on a whole headset can be all the time. Also messes up my flick or swoosh type hairstyle ! So should make going into vr faster, cooler and even more enjoyable

Hold up ther tomo, r you saying red dead redemption 2 -rdr2 u say - is still playable in vr ? I saw a vid of beardo benjo playing it recently but you cant anymore right ? Cuz if you can then please tell how ! ... also, anyone no if thers any way to get lukes gta vr back working too ???

There is currently not support for them here but you can definitely ask in the Flat2VR discord and people should be able to help you get them up and running. It takes some work but its still doable.
