This is a maintenance release that brings some improvements and stability fixes.

The main post for the Elden Ring VR conversion, with full instructions for setup and gameplay, is here. Please always remember to run RealConfig after you update. A troubleshooting post will follow soon.

What's new in 4.1.1:

  • Mounted telescopes (those you find alongside paths) should now be working correctly: the mod will automatically switch to the bird's eye view no matter which camera you were using before looking into the scope, and zooming will be enabled as the game intended.
  • The pouch slots in the bottom left corner of the HUD that were disappearing when long-pressing Y on the gamepad should finally be fixed for all character classes and gameplay situations. I'm not 100% sure about this because the game draws the HUD in a thousand different ways according to what's going on at any given moment, so I rely on your feedback!
  • Connected to the previous point: in 4.1.0 I had used a different technique to try and fix the pouch, and that broke the positioning of HUD elements on NPCs for some users. I reverted that change, so the health bars and lock-on white markers should be in their proper place again.

What's new in 4.1.0:

  • The first-person camera should no longer attach to the character's midsection instead of the head. Thanks to patron Jon Travolta for the reports and the savegames! It appears that only very few players saw the issue because it was specific to 1-2 character classes and possibly even to certain body traits. Please let me know if you still see the first-person camera attaching to anything other than your tarnished head :-)
  • It took me many hours of work, but I was finally able to fix the ultra-low animation speed (2 fps!) that plagues this game in certain conditions, like when NPCs get somewhat far away from your character, when you're using ultrawide monitors or, in our case with VR, when you're not looking in the exact direction that the game expects the camera to be pointing at.
  • Forgot to mention in the first draft of this post: I also fixed a minor issue where the weapon slots in the lower left corner of the HUD would sometimes become invisible.

Have fun killing unlikely creatures and exploring mystic places!

I got the last mod to stop crashing on me by running real config and putting it on low but i can't use the quick attack button rb does anyone have a solution for this

Anonymous

Is there any reason why this turns Depth of Field to Maximum instead of Off? When using "Maximum" the particle effects and the skybox look blurry/low quality -- but when changing to "Off" the sky and effects are crystal clear and look great. Don't notice any issues caused by switching this to Off like when turning Motion Blur on.

realvr

Depth of field works as the developers intended in VR, so I left it on in the higher presets, whereas as you noticed Motion blur doesn't work. But of course you can turn DoF off if you don't like the way it looks and prefer the added clarity to the out-of-focus effect!

When I updated, the run bat file says theres no mod installation folder for rdr2

Anonymous

Just editing, my dumb self thought it was meant to be installed like the old mods where the rdr2 files go directly into the install folder but I had to put RealRepo in instead. But, it runs really poorly for me unfortunately... Im stuck around 60 fps and it just doesnt look very good. I noticed the bat file works now but seems to have no difference in all the settings options

Using a version 4.1.1 and still have camera issues. It randomly moves down after a horse riding or sitting at bonfire. Is there a way to fix or avoid that?

realvr

Did you remember to run RealConfig after the update? If you did, then please upload your savegame anywhere and I'll try to find out what's going wrong

Anonymous

I get this issue as well when opening chest or even running on foot while attacking only way to remove it is to fast travel or while running spawn your horse doesn’t work all the time tho

NVIDIA Geforce RTX2060, Intel i7 2.50 ghz, I know my setup might not be the best but it ran GTA 5 smoothly at medium settings and a few extras on. I know the engine is different, just hoping that I don't have to spend money on an upgrade to experience rdr2 on vr

i cant get the new updated mod to work. ive replaced the older files with the newer ones an ran the batch file, and i cant get the menu to popup. i then try to get the older files working again an it works but its jittery beyond belief. i wish there was a easy to follow video to understand updating and installing the mod (which files to delete or replace before retrying to install)

Anonymous

Yes, I relaunched the config. Here is my save file https://www.dropbox.com/s/ap5tg838qijnrjr/ER0000.sl2?dl=0

Anonymous

Yes, you watch a youtube video and all the guy does is throw the files in there and bam everything is sugar. I do that, and bam I need to install my whole os lol. These mods are sick though but we need better guides

(RDR2) I realized that i have an integrated graphics card. i disabled my Amd card an the mod would work but, the outcome would start the stutter where it would run at 6 fps Any tips on this? i reenabled it after i loaded into it an it was a steady 60fps, started messing with some shader options an it crashed lol. havent been able to get it to 60fps since, any help or advice would be appreciated. ill gladly play at 60 fps

realvr

You could try with DLSS. With the game loaded, enter its graphics settings menu, set DLSS to "Quality" and apply the changes. Then bring up the mod overlay and set "Base window size override" to 2700x2700 and "Resolution Scale override" to "No override"; finally click on "Resize window". If after playing for a few minutes you still feel that the frame rate is unacceptably low, you can move to lower presets for DLSS from the game menu, or to lower values for "Base window size override" from the overlay. Let me know if you find the sweet spot!

Hey Luke, this latest update fixed the issue with the HUD's lock-on dots not staying on enemies, but there's still an issue with the targeting system -- when playing in VR you can only lock on to enemies when you are like a foot away from them (basically once they already see you). The game doesn't have this issue in the regular non-VR mode and allows enemies to be locked on to from very far away. Is there a setting to increase the distance you can lock-on?

Anonymous

Hey Luke, first off thanks a lot for your work! I have been hoping to play Elden Ring in first person VR and you made it happen :) Unfortunately I do find that the current implementation has a few issues that makes it quite uncomfortable to play. The main one is that the camera seems to be attached to the player which causes it to constantly bob up & down as the player moves, rolls, attacks. I previously finished a playthrough of Dark Souls 3 in first person VR (using vorpx + nexus mod) and it was comfortable because the camera only followed the player movement on the x axis (except when jumping I think) so moving / rolling / attacking was no problem at all. The other thing is that the player doesn't move in the direction I am looking which I find confusing and hard to control. Here is a video where you can see someone playing DS3 in first person VR to give you an idea (you may also notice that the body is invisible, keeping only the hands, which helps when rolling to not block your view): https://youtu.be/-PdRGN4Lv7o?t=2549 Do you think it could be possible to do the same for your Elden Ring mod? I would really love to do a first person playthrough but it does make me feel a bit nauseous as is with all the head movement. I would even be willing to try to look into the code and see if I can work out something provided you can indicate where I should look as I previously modified a witcher 3 mod to solve a similar issue. Thank you!

Oh and one small thing I noticed is I can't keep the ingame HUD on screen (healthbar, weapons menu etc) so it makes it difficult to fight since I can't see my health. I can see the HUD fine when I press start though or when I pick up items but in-game there seems to be a flickering issue or something. It looks like the compass is always visible but the horizontal bar that is normally rendered on the compass is alone at the top of the screen. Might have to do with my resolution of 1920x1080 playing in borderless window (all other modes I tried either had black bars on top and bottom for windowed mode or HUD is not visible at all for other resolutions in borderless). Sorry for all that text!

Gaz252

im using a ps5 dual sense controller with ds4 windows and if i want to see the hud anytime i just tap triangle (Y on xbox controller)

Anonymous

Thanks this does bring up the hud but unfortunately it's not working in combat so still difficult to play in first person

realvr

Hi kalas, you should definitely NOT be playing in borderless window mode as it will scramble the HUD and other things. Run RealConfig again (it will fix the graphics settings for you) and leave the game in windowed mode as preset by my mod. You can change the resolution, but choose only from the square ones. Re: the fist person camera, I might do something for the headbobbing in the future, but I won't hide the player body. In Elden Ring if you hide the player the weapons disappear too, and even if a solution was found to keep the weapons visible, they would look kind of silly and immersion-breaking just floating in the air and hitting things by themselves :-D

Anonymous

Thanks a lot for taking the time to reply Luke! Alright so I ran RealConfig again but unfortunately every resolution (which is square as you mentioned) ends up having large black bars on top and bottom (basically letterbox) so it significantly reduces immersion and the HUD also seems to be too far on the left / right for me to see it fully (though it seems to fix the flickering issue). Any ideas what might be the problem? Letterbox is not an issue in borderless 1920x1080. As for hiding the player body you'd still want to keep the hands and weapons visible for sure (like the ds3 mod) but honestly that is much less of an issue than the headbobbing so it's great to hear you might work on that :)

realvr

Are you using other mods? There should be no black bars at all with square resolutions! Doesn't your game look like in the videos from YouTubers? They're all using square resolutions. EDIT: The black bars do appear on the desktop, but they should not be visible in VR! What are your system specs and headset?

Anonymous

No mods at all, the youtube videos don't show the black bars so it doesn't look the same. I'll try reinstalling the game and see if that helps.

realvr

I cannot repro that here. I just tried again to double check, and the distance from which I can lock on is exactly the same whether I turn VR on or off

Anonymous

Sorry just saw your edit, I'm on windows 10, oculus quest 2 using oculus link (tried the different vr renderers in options but same result), i7 + rtx 2070 (laptop version) GPU, 15G RAM.

Anonymous

Yes I confirm. With 4.1.1 the camera shifts for me (to left of midbody) mostly in those situations: 1) when grabbing an object that's in a treasure chest 2) on the horse when I start galloping or when doing lots of consecutive jumping the offset goes away when I rest at a site of grace or teleport to a cave entrance.

Anonymous

The RDR2 Mod works really well. In 1st person mode im basically in Arthur's crotch... is there anyway to adjust this? :P I feel like im a midget going into the bar.

realvr

Just to verify if it's a subjective feeling or the camera is actually misplaced: in 1st person, without touching the controller and with your gun holstered, walk back in real life (like a foot or two) and look at what you see. You should be right behind the place where Arthur's head would be, except that his model is headless.

Anonymous

Ok so I reinstalled the game, updated my graphic drivers (nvidia), not sure what was going on (perhaps my game was on a different version or something) but I don't have the black bars anymore and the HUD issues are gone, much better! So at this point if the head bobbing when moving / rolling / attacking could be fixed and there was a way to make the character move in the direction of the camera I think it'd be good to go for a full playthrough :)

Anonymous

Hey Luke! I read over Kalas' posts and tried the VR mod for Dark Souls 3 in first person and I have to agree - if we could do something about controls to make it more similar to that mod, it would be a great step forward when it comes to gameplay. Im not sure if its possible within the scope of how you mod games, but the controls in the Dark Souls 3 FPS mod were pretty rock solid with the character always moving in the direction of the camera - Ive had issues where Im kinda 'strafing' while trying to turn the other way to go around a corner, etc. Been enjoying my time in ER with your mod, just think this might help make the game a bit more playable in First Person mode and eliminating the headbobbing would be great as well. Thanks so much for the mod, have managed to take out quite a few bosses so far - but plenty of work left to be done lol. Take care

realvr

Thank you for the feedback, guys! I'll see what can be done although I can make no promises ATM

Anonymous

so my game is running at a nice 11 fps on low config and i'm using 16gb of rame intel i5 and a gtx 1650super

realvr

The 1650 is not very powerful, but you should definitely be getting better frame rates. Are you running other mods together with mine? Any errors reported by RealConfig?

Anonymous

is it normal to aim your gun with your head? i am using keyboard and mouse, i can use the mouse for left and right but not up and down. Doing something wrong or is this intended? its weird :D

Anonymous

Btw its an honest question. i really enjoy the vr experience how it looks and feels, but the aiming with head kills it for me. That breaks the immersion. Normally you look with your head and aim with your right arm ( mouse ). Is there a way to aim with mouse? I really hope so otherwise it was a waste of money because i cant aim with my head and it doesn't make sense. Any help?

Anonymous

As is the case with all of these mods, head aiming is the only aiming method in first person. This is stated rather clearly in every release.

Anonymous

stated clearly? So i bought it yesterday and i only red the newest release since i just got it. In the new release i can not find anything about head aiming? I mean i can blame myself for not reading the entire forum( first time using patreon aswell and its a total mess and super beginner unfriendly to navigate on this page its a royal mess but that aside, i will learn), but honestly, aiming with your head is normal in this? And ya; ll are oke with that? Man you guys all must have some chuncky ass necks from all that bird shooting. All jokes aside. what did i miss in this release that stated its head aiming? i never used VR.. so try to read it as a first timer.. what did i miss where it said you aim with your headmovement? Its all honest questions. So there is no way to aim with mouse in first person?

realvr

Hey Jackal. All my mods use gaze-based aiming. There is no settings change to enable mouse- or stick-based aiming, because the games I mod expect the crosshair to always be in the center of your view and it's the camera that moves: however, in VR it would make no sense to tilt your view up and down using the mouse or thumbstick. The vertical movement must be driven by your head, otherwise you would get sick and the experience would not be realistic. Just give it a few minutes. You'll see that gaze-based aiming very quickly becomes second-nature, and when it does everybody finds it very precise and intuitive. Should you not be able to learn to use it, I can refund you. That said, please dial down the attitude, especially toward other members of the community.

Anonymous

Hey Luke, From playing more I've found that before I enter combat I cannot easily target enemies unless I'm right in front of them a foot away... however, once combat starts I can easily target multiple enemies at normal non-VR game distance. Could it be something with the camera? I'm playing in third person instead of first and pulling the camera in right over my character's right shoulder. Or how else can I help you repro this?

realvr

So you're using the "Game default" camera but with large offsets? Can't you use the "R.E.A.L. close" camera instead?
