Hi! A short post to tell you that I'm making good progress on fixing the mod for the "update that broke all the things". I have an internal build where VR works again (and better than before: it's now possible to change graphics settings on the fly without crashing the game!), and DLSS kind of works too, although it exhibits slightly worse haloing and shimmering than TAA used to have in Stereo before I fixed it in 1.3.0-1.3.1.

I just wanted to have a quick poll to help me decide what to do. Would you prefer that a. I package a release with what I have now (previous features restored, with Resolution Scale and TAA fully working, but DLSS not really usable in Stereo due to excessive shimmering), which should be out in 1-2 days at most, or b. while I have the hood open and the engine dismantled, I keep hammering for a while to see whether I can fix DLSS so that it works correctly in VR... say about a week or so?

How about both?

I prefer to have dlss. But it would not be fair to all the others to not have a release working before. And fix for dlss …… when you can. I have a question. Is there any shimmering on mono view with dlss ? 🤔 (if not, i may be able to be one of the first to play with dlss 😋😋😋)

For me personally it ran great without DLSS so I'd prefer now!

How much of an FPS boost does DLSS give in VR is prob the big question? I cant use it anyway still stuck on a 1070.

Shawn Colton

My GTX GeForce 1660 Super can't do DLSS.

The "both" option is essentially the first one. However, a new release (especially in this case where many people will be confused about the downgrade/upgrade process and the new options needed to make the game start with DLSS) always implies a few days of support, so it will delay the full release with DLSS fixed by quite some time. To be clearer: putting out the first release for option a. will in all likelihood make it impossible to fit the proper release with the DLSS fix within the month of July.

I had measured about 15% performance improvement a few days ago, and I just saw a YouTube video where they benchmarked with the new NVIDIA driver and (even in 2D) the 15% figure stays pretty consistent. I'm not sure where and how NVIDIA came out with their 45% estimate, but it's completely unrealistic.

31 to 9, I feel the answer is clear. We need DLSS lol

I voted for the DLSS option but that was before I read the comments. I'm having no issue playing the game with the last version but I forgot that a lot of people updated without backing up. Also a lot of people don't have a graphics card that can do DLSS. My biggest reason for wanting DLSS isn't performance related. The game already runs fairly well on my PC in VR. What I really want it for is to make the game look better and get rid of the blur. If that isn't possible I'm not sure it's even worth the effort.

It's not his fault the game got updated, he is diplomatically putting it to a vote so that the backers have the say. He said it will be approx a week to get a notable improvement in frame rate for many with the DLSS fix. There is still a way to play (check his previous posts). If the majority want the quick fix they will vote for it

Derrick taylor

I haven't played the game even once in vr. I came to the party after the ;latest update

Like Clell I also voted for the DLSS option. I already have a working version and a week or so isn't the end of the world. Also, it seems easier on Luke if he just continues working.

Red Dead Update, VR no longer works :-(

Initially I was all in for DLSS but I've changed my vote to a working version because DLSS isn't vital to everyone. I think the priority should be getting it working again for those running the latest Rockstar version. I did manage to get it working for a while using the Steam rollback method, but I can appreciate others don't have that luxury. Based on some of your replies Luke it sounds like you'll add DLSS support in the future regardless.

Me too. RTX 3090, wifi 6, Quest 2, was running fine wireless on that ultra setting, especially after that last R.E.A.L. update before the official DLSS.

Anonymous

Agreed, not many people have the ability to run DLSS with their setup, mine included. Think the most important thing now is to get the working version up for everyone then add the DLSS support later down the line for people who can support it on their systems.

Also voted for DLSS mainly because i have a 2070 and with this update i can max out the graphics and its a day and night difference in terms of smoothness in action. I really was hoping for this to work in Vr even if its only 15% in some cases i thinks it makes a lot of difference in immersion. I was really suprised how good on ultra preset this vr mod runs with a few changes in the settings with my gpu. So you already did an amazing job with the built before this update. Looking forward to playing it again.

I have a 2070, too. Can you tell me, what changes you made to run the game on ultra preset?

Cercata

This community surprises me, we prefer quality over something rushed :-O Anyway, any of the 2 scenarios is ok for me :)

This is going to be interesting. Never tried VR with DLSS

I just paid 10 $ for something that i can not use. I was not aware that DLSS broke the mod. If the fix will be available next month does that mean that i have to pay another 10$? This does not sound like a good deal to me.

I don't mind either way, but I tried TAA, and while it's been much improved over the way it was when the mod launched, I'd rather play without it. It creates very subtle offsets in stereo vision (esp on moving objects) which I find very distracting and hard on my eyes in VR. So I prefer to bump up renderscale at the cost of lower graphics settings. Things are just more crisp (I do lots of hunting so I focus a lot on things in the distance) and well grounded in space, even if there's a bit of extra shimmering due to aliasing. Since I would guess that DLSS would have the same issue as TAA, it's not something I would personally use either.

Which version of the game do you own? My steam version is working after following the instructions in ”work-around” post here on Luke patreon page.

Could be useful to push out a new fixed version of the mod asap (without DLSS), for the purpose that the whole community can test it for new issues that maybe Luke could have missed (especially since he does mention he's noticing new stutter, etc). But if the difference between the two options is just a matter of a few days, it really doesn't matter all that much I guess (although I've just upgraded to a 3080ti and can't wait to see the difference :P )

Hoshi82

I am for a package now since I can't play it anymore thanks to update and no way to downgrade on the Rockstar Launcher version.

Thank you for your work!! Would it be possible to fashion the Mafia in VR?

Anonymous

I'm paying you to do what is said that cannot be done. If people are upset about how updates work they should be complaining to Rockstar or basically Bill Gates or one could simply yell at Steve Jobs

Scott Carson

Does this help at all Luke? https://developer.nvidia.com/dlss-getting-started

Nicky Butler

The stutters he means are when using dlss i think. Probably doesnt stutter without dlss

Anonymous

Interesting points. This might explain the weird stutter effect I get when turning using a controller (and moving). Smooth as when I turn my head but I too think TAA might be too aggressive for stereo scopic vision. Do you super sample or bump up the renderscale in game?

realvr

Fortunately yes, I've been working with the official SDK for a couple of days now! It was an incredibly lucky break that they chose precisely this week to release it to all developers. I had already figured out most of the calls on my own, but having the official docs available does make for faster work, as I'm more certain of what I'm doing :-)

realvr

It's one of my dreams! Even though Mafia 3 was a little disappointing, I remember Mafia 1 and 2 fondly as wonderful and moving experiences!

Luke, please be careful when it Megahertz :(
