Paying for a replay gallery is kinda meh not happy about, But I like being able to get a guide/walkthrough/cheat whatever. Not gonna lie I use them a lot for time saving since I don't get to play as much as I'd like due to RL. Whether its an unofficial or official have some form of aid is something I look at when I am considering buying it. If throwing a little cash to the developer gets me an official guide and helps them I'm all for it. Lol I'd have pulled my hair out trying to get all the secret renders in Being a DIK if it wasn't for the official guide DLC.

Back when I used to support Leap of Faith here on Patreon the Dev insisted that LoF was only going to be eight chapters. Has this changed? I'm not real happy that Steam is selling incomplete games now, especially as they can't guarantee that the game will be finished, or tell upfront exactly how much it will cost.

They said in 2020 that: "That is correct. 8 Chapters, with a possible reunion chapter somewhere down the road. Even though I would have loved to make this into a longer journey, it would be hard to expand on the current script. And after all it is just my introduction to the world of VNs, my master's degree if you like, so that I can jump into my next project with a whole lot more experience and knowledge." The problem is that we seem to be far away from an ending, so it either has to be rushed, extended, or broken up into another game like many other Visual Novel developers have done.

That's a fair point about the ending, and a great disappointment in yet another Dev.

I think it is really, really hard to make a video game. I am sure that whatever the original plot was, it may have drifted or expanded. So many games try to add more and do more as a game gets popular. Even without all of that extra, I know I couldn't start writing a story and expect it to remain the same over 2 years of growth, progress, and creation.

David D

I wouldn't mind that too much. The reality though has been Dev's just milking by bloating their original concept. I won't mention specific games but in my experience seeing a game that you love become popular is seeing a game that you loved ruined by the greed of the Dev.

I understand it is a trend in this space and frankly I think it is a vulnerability of the current Patronage model. A developer wants to finish a game, but will a new game be as popular? If a developer offers a game on Steam with the same updates and release schedule will they lose Patrons? I think NLTMedia is showing that you can make new games and effectively use Steam, but I think that is a huge risk for smaller developers. I've been working on a video about this for the past few months. Ideally I'd like to get input from developers and other members of the industry so it's not just me talking about how I've crunched the data.

Yes, that would make an excellent video. I look forward to it. It's a little disheartening that AVN's have already fallen prey to some of the same iffy marketing strategies that have driven so many of us away from AAA games. Still, there are many Dev's in this space that are making an effort.

I think that if you tried contacting some of the smaller developers, those who are struggling to get their brand out there, they'd be more likely to respond. I would suggest Lockheart, who just completed A Petal Among Thorns and also have Avalon completed. Also Davie Zwei who is developing Healslut, an excellent game that is struggling to find support.
