I brought this up on Twitter, but I’ve got a repair-person working on my laptop.

Initially I thought it was an issue with the charger port, but one of the first things I was told after turning in my machine was that the port looks entirely fine, and my battery is swollen. The working theory is that my laptop has a failsafe for a swollen battery that disables charging at a certain point, and that’s why the port stopped functioning. This is actually a feature in smart phones and some other laptops, so it’s not too outlandish, and I’m praying that this is true for mine.

However, if it is the charger port, I’m fucked— it’s not an easily replaced part, as it’s soldered to my motherboard, and will be waaay more expensive to replace. Expensive enough that it would make more sense to just get a new laptop.

I’ll keep you in the loop, but the replacement battery won’t be in until the ninth, so I’m just playing the waiting game until then.

Wish me luck.
