Commissioned by Patron Vincent Aaron Stauffer, this TF comic is inspired the second issue of Marvel's 2001: A Space Odyssey by the legendary Jack Kirby.  The comic itself repeats many of the key elements of the original book and film (minus the homicidal computer) but from a female perspective, showing how exposure to a mysterious alien monolith propels first a cavewoman and then an astronaut into the next stage of human evolution.  In the comic they are presented as two parallel tales, but the cover , which shows a split head shot of Vira the cavewoman and Vera the astronaut, certainly implies a transformation, and that's where this strip comes in.  I must say the idea of a futuristic astronaut being dragged back in body, mind, and even setting to a prehistoric state makes for a neat contrast.  The biggest challenge was reminding myself I was NOT drawing CroMagna, as I was also deep into finishing up that comic at the same time.

Of course, you could argue it's more like Altered States (1980) rather than 2001: A Space Odyssey.
