Going back to the figure base, I use the pen tool to block of the different sections of the body and fill them with different shades. Except for the blue eyes all the “colors” used in Julie Takes Wing are based of grayscale comic shades—cool, warm, tone, and neutral. Shiny parts, like the shoes, tie, and hair, are filled in with the lightest shade of gray and then colored over with the main color, leaving some space for highlights. I then use the pencil tool to add some shading and volume. The sheer effect on the tights is achieved with the airbrush tool using the same shade as the skin and set at 50%.
