Hello, dear heroes!

And also, hello the rest of humanity!

A public update this week, for the visibility and reach.

Synthetic Dream Machine

I have it on good authority that the chromademon, full color rules zine is printed and in the warehouses, ready for shipping soon: https://www.exaltedfuneral.com/products/sdm-eternal-return-key-chromademon-version

I'm not sure why the cover image on the EF store is wrong though. Gotta fix that.

I've also set up a spell page on the SDM page, so there'll be a free digital archive of the spells I write. About dang time!

Our Golden Age

Our Golden Age continues to grow as I translate more of Uranium Butterflies into SDM. I've completed another background (the Bluelander), added some stuff about portalspace and how travel gates distort the local spacetime, and a big weird phenomenon - the voidway.

I'm planning to add a few more of these phenomena as interactive weird terrain to help you add a bit of good old UV weirdness to the Rainbowlands.

It's pretty fun.

Silver Ship Wizard

However. The time of the child is nearly upon us.

As such, I'm going to pivot and try and finish writing this adventure before the baby is born. All that's really left is turning my notes on the locations into, well, the locations.

And adding a map.

Wish me luck!

And here are some words of wisdom from the deathless wizard Idrargo.

Should you wish to play a swellsword, here are some useful traits.

Small Arts

And, if you're interested in staying up-caught with the small arts and doodles I do on the by-and-by, I've found instagram the most manageable of social medias for just posting art and not seeing yet-another-outrage-that-makes-me-want-to-furiously-post-and-comment.

Meanwhile, discussions continue on the stratometaship discord (a link in the previous post), and the Ultraviolet Grasslands facebook group is getting livelier too.

Till Next Week

Right, that's it, super short update this week! Hope you enjoyed it.

Take care, have a lovely weekend, have good games with fine friends, and smile at a cat. Apparently that's good luck.

~truly,
Luka

PS - I can't promise there won't be an art zine at some point in the next months. It's on my radar, but ... radars. Fickle things. Especially mine!

I love the portal space diagram! As someone trying to teach themselves art, what software did you use for this and the long map?

wizardthieffighter

Thank you! Well, for the diagram itself (and the long map) I used vector drawing software on a laptop computer. For the little figures on the portal diagram, I used Procreate (a bitmap drawing program on iPad). First I drew the map as a vector, then exported it as a high-resolution PNG and added the figures on the iPad. Inkscape is a storied open-source vector drawing program. Affinity Designer is an affordable (and powerful) program. Adobe Illustrator is the industry standard (but requires an expensive monthly subscription). I made the Long Map using Affinity Designer. The portal diagram, I suspect was Illustrator, but it could be easily made with any of the three programs I listed. Affinity Designer is a very good program to learn how to use vectors - but it has one (for me) major flaw: it's color management is fiddly and makes professional printing difficult. That's why I switched back to Illustrator recently. However, if you're starting out or making vectors for digital use, the color management thing is absolutely a non-issue.
