We've spent a little while studying the myths and legends of Hawai'i. What have we learned?

Great conclusion to a great season, James! I appreciated the running theme of colonialism and its influence on our general understanding of Hawaiian mythology.

Thanks, this was great! An interesting one-shot ep might be an episode of thoughts on how to do religious upheval and change well especially given the D&D typical approach of The Gods Are Definitely Real - it's something that's been touched on a lot of times throughout Patron Deities but it could be interesting to discuss it as a theme in its own right.

Oh boy -- that does seem like a challenging one. As you know, I studied the period when Christianisation is happening in parts of northern Europe, and although I think we have learned a lot about the general outline of the process, I have always been a bit uncertain about how it must have worked specifically -- and that's in a world where the objective reality of the divine is rather less clearly established!

Thanks! Coming into the topic as a relative outsider, it was hard to avoid the role of colonialism, mainly because the period of European/American contact is of course the period where these stories start to be recorded and published.
