Fun episode. I particularly enjoyed the discussion of the hardening and blurring of literary genre boundaries. The discussion of sewers as sites of fascination reminded me of a trip I took as a kid to the Musée des égouts de Paris. The museum is scheduled for a 2021 reopening and I'd recommend it to anyone who find themselves in the neighborhood.

I grew up in NYC and a good portion of the city (Manhattan anyway) is underground, and big chunks of that underground are abandoned or at least they are seldom visited. Supposedly there is an old building in Midtown where, in a sub- sub-basement you can actually fish in what is now an underground river left over from when the city grid was being laid down. Not sure how true that is, but it sure fires the imagination! :)
