My brain stubbornly refuses to internalise the fact that the 'pter' in pterodactyl is the same as the 'pter' in helicopter.

Fun fact! The Pterrans did in fact become a PC race in the second Dark Sun boxed set along with the Aarakocra (Athasian).

And at a 1992 release, the Pterrans are just ahead of Earthdawn's T'skrang, although now that I look at more T'skrang illustrations, I see they're more lizardy in general and less pterosaur-y in particular.
