Glad you're still pushing through! Imo this intro to Hueco Mundo is by far the roughest part of the show (oh my god the comedy is especially tough to get through sometimes), it's only up from here.

We did see Ichigo doing helping people cross over! He does it a decent bit in the first arc, and I think he helps a soul or two at the beginning of the Vizored arc (or maybe around the time Rukia tells him to get his shit together?). We don't see them too much, but there is also technically a Soul Reaper who's on-duty on Karakura town - the bozo with the afro. The fact that Soul Society has a strong standing army and military infrastructure, but doesn't actually do much in the World of the Living is definitely emphasized throughout the series.

Also extra lil fun fact: the blonde girl at the end (Ukitake the COVID captain's squad member) is fighting with the other annoying black-haired guy to be Ukitake's lieutenant - a seat vacant due to Kaien Shiba's death.
