Recently, I talked to Zucc_This on his work on creating a Gen4/5 compatible frame. He's made good progress on adapting the current DDXX.2 rail spec and model to be compatible with the Glock Gen4 and Gen5 variants. I wanted to take it to the next level though.

For Gen4 and Gen5 parts to work, you have to either modify the rail or lop off the bottom part of the trigger housing. Neither are ideal, so we're toying with the idea of creating a revised rail spec for the Gen4 and Gen5 housings.

For those that don't know, the Gen4 and Gen5 housing have a little "splinter" sort of extension on the bottom of it. I hypothesize that this is intended to help align the housing with the frame for the pin to go through (a pin made of plastic), as the grips are user interchangeable.

I don't have a Gen4/5 housing yet (it's on the way), but once I have it, I can model it's "splinter" to account for it in the frame. I want to be able to re-use the alignment feature for DIY kits, so people wouldn't have to ram in pins like they do for current Gen3 frames.

I figured that moving the "bridge" to intersect the magwell is risky- I am eating up into the tolerance inside it, but will see if this rail design works. It was the area with the least geometry, as I didn't want to eat into the layers on the backstrap, which help hold the frame together from the rear.

Once I get rails from my vendor and the parts in, I'll see how well this fits and whatnot.

Cheers,

Vinh
