Mania is like unreasonable positivity. Everything makes you happy, things that shouldn't bounce off you. Typically it's only considered mania if it's limited in nature, if that's just your all the time personality it's not mania. Most of us tend to have highs and lows because of hormones, but manic depressives do that to an extreme. Highs so high it's a problem and lows so low they're a problem and the contrast makes it worse.
