This is a Xmas story based on the Family Friend Makeover characters. Let me know what you think. This will be this years Xmas special

Family Friend Makeover Xmas

Looking right, then looking left—I dart across the road. Slipping a little on the Icey sidewalk, I dodge the oncoming traffic and throw my hand up into the air.

“Josey!” I call out to the crowds on the other side of the street. “Please stop! I need to talk to you!”

As I dart in front of a car, trying to get to the sidewalk, the driver angrily beeps me. Feeling my heart beating fast, I jump up and shout again. “Josey please!”

Struggling to see through the sea of Christmas shoppers, my shoulders begin to sag as my hopes of talking with her fade.

Josey is Steph’s sister and I really need to talk to her about why Steph is completely blanking me. I’m desperate to find out why she’s no longer talking to me! I thought everything was going so well and I’ve been so supportive of her coming out!

It was incredibly brave for her to come clean about her gender issues with her family. We’d spoken about coming out together and stupidly, I chickened out at the last moment. I know that’s got to be why she’s not talking to me anymore, but I can’t just accept that it’s over between us! I love her!

Staring blankly as the crowds bump me and pass me by, I feel that sinking feeling deep in my chest as the chance to find out why fades away. My heart—it hurts.

“James….?”

I look up and Josey is standing in front of me with a confused expression. She looks nervous and uncomfortable in my presence, but I’m so glad she heard me!

“J-Josey!” I stutter, stumbling on my words as my brain thinks fast than I can talk. “P-please, can I talk to you please!?”

Josey looks around her as she has to doge a person with large shopping bags. “Ok,” she nods, looking around for somewhere else for us to stand.

Josey grabs my arm and pulls me from the stampede of shoppers. Leading me to a small, covered area out front of a quiet store, she folds her arms and leans against the wall.

“Well…?” Josey asks, looking at me impatiently as I gather my thoughts.

“Why isn’t Steph talking to me anymore!?” I blurt out, not really knowing how to bring it up without wanting to cry in front of her.

Looking anxiously up and down the sidewalk, Josey reaches over to my arm and touches me gently.

“She or I guess I should say he,” she replies with a gentle smile. “He misses you too.”

Her smile brings me warmth, but her words make me even more confused!

“I don’t understand then,” I whine, bringing a hand to my face. “If that’s the case, why won’t she talk to me? I thought we loved each other, yet she’s not even taking my calls?”

Josey turns away and bites her lip. “it’s not really my place James.”

“Please Josey! If not for me, then for her!”

Blowing a raspberry, Josey tucks her hair behind her ear but continues to look away. “I want to help—I really do, but It’s not my place.”

Getting frustrated and desperate, I let out a long sigh.

Regaining my focus, I look her directly in the eyes.

“Come on Josey please,” I plea. “We’ve known each other for years. Our families have been friends for years! Both our families were extremely excited when we got together, yet now I feel like I’m hated by everyone—Including Steph.”

Just staring back at me, I can see cogs in Josey’s mind turning.

“Fine,” she eventually replies, giving me a nervous smile. “I didn’t tell you this…. ok!”

“Thank you! I won’t say anything!”

“Look,” Josey states. “I’m not going to pretend I know exactly how he’s feeling, but I’d suggest he feels a little betrayed.”

“Betrayed!?” I gripe, feeling the pain in my heart sharpen.

“Yes,” Josey says sternly. “Look, he’s told me some things about you in confidence. I hope you don’t mind me saying—but when he came out to the family, I believe you were supposed to do the same too…. right?”

I look down in shame and mumble. “Y-yes…,”

“So…. James,” Josey says, reaching to touch my forearm. “Obviously you know how difficult it was for him to come out to the family about it. I assume you just couldn’t do it through the worry of being scolded by your family—yet you left Steph to take all the flack.”

“Is that why she’s not talking to me!?” I blurt out

“He…,” Josey corrects. “I think Steph prefers being referred to as he now.”

“Shit,” I whine, instantly covering my face with my hands in shame. “I’ve really fucked it up between us…haven’t I?”

“Well, kinda…. yeah,” Josey remarks, looking away. “To be honest, I’m not sure what he wants either. We all kinda ignored his new tomboy look as a funny stage he’s going through. His obvious love for you had us all thinking he’d grow out of it and start acting like a girly girl again. I mean, if Steph’s going to transition into a boy, are you really going to want to be with her anymore? Clearly, it’s a hard situation for you both, but breaking up might be the right thing for both of you.

“No way!” I screech, throwing my arms to my side. “I won’t accept that it’s over between us just like that!”

“Oh?” Josey asks in surprise. “Do you still love him…? Even if he transitions from girl to boy?”

“Yes! I cry, allowing the tears to bubble behind my eyes. “My love for him is endless.”

As I rub the tears from my face, Josey just looks at me without saying a word. I feel extremely embarrassed about getting emotional in front of her.

“Can ask you something?”

“S-sure…,” I reply, trying to hide a whimper.

“Are you a girl or a boy?”

“Errrr…,” I mumble and go red, unsure how to answer. “I-I…wish it was that easy. Right now, I’d say I identify as both.”

Josey tilts her head to the side and gives me a puzzled look. “How does that work?”

“I don’t know,” I reply sullenly, looking at my feet. “It’s hard to explain when you don’t understand it yourself. I’m still very confused about myself—that’s why I didn’t come out to my family. How am I supposed to tell them such a thing when I’m not even sure about it myself!?

Pondering on my words for a moment, Josey lets out a long breath.

“Must be so hard for you and Steph,” she says, giving me a friendly smile. “I can’t pretend to understand how you both feel or how hard that must be to deal with, but I do have an idea for you.”

“An idea?” I question with a loud sniff.

“Yeah,” she nods. “I have no clue if it will work or not, but I like you and I’ve seen how happy you make him….so….,”

“Yeah, anything!” I say, interrupting her with excitement. “I’ll do anything!”

“That’s cute,” Josey says, beaming a bright grin. “Would you like to know the idea first before agreeing with it?”

“Oh sorry…..,” I reply, bashfully. “What’s the plan?”

“Steph has told me about your…. Girly side,” Josey continues, a little uncomfortable. “If I come around yours tomorrow and we do a complete makeover. Then on Xmas day, I’m inviting you over as a present for her. I think a gesture like that will show her how much you care.”

“Wait…,” I reply, instantly feeling my body shaking with nerves. “That would mean my entire family would see me dressed as a girl Christmas morning before I come over…!!”

“Yup.”

“I erm…..”

“Do you love my sister James?”

“I do.”

“Well, that’s my idea.”

“Shit…,” I answer, clenching my jaw tight. “Yes, let’s do it.”

Josey is completely true to her word. She came over Christmas eve and did a fantastic job making me look somewhat pretty.

That brings us to this morning. Christmas morning….

Having woken up early, I’d follow Josey’s plan to the letter. I brush out my wig and set it with spray. I do my makeup, just like she’d shown me. I put on all the shape underwear she’d let me borrow, and I’d put on the dress she’d picked.

It’s a short, maroon, red dress with a sweetheart neckline.

Staring into the mirror at myself, I could feel almost feel my pent-up anxiety manifesting as physical pain. My heart was telling me this was the right thing to do, but my head was telling me to take it all off and hide under the bed.

It’s not like I wasn’t used to dressing this way. I’d become quite accustomed to wearing makeup, wigs, heels, and dresses—it’s just the thought of knowing I’m about to go downstairs looking like this. My entire family is about to see me like this!

“For her,” I whisper at my reflection in the mirror.

Taking in a long breath, I steady my resolve. Brushing hair behind both ears, I open the door and take a step outside my room. It’s still early, so the only person up is mom, who’s in the kitchen.

As I slowly come down the stairs, trying to be as quiet as possible in my heavy-heeled boots, I stand at the kitchen entrance. Watching my mother for a second, I steady my shaking hands.

“M-morning M-mom…,” I say, my voice cracking like a teenage boy's.

Like my life flashing before my eyes, Mom turns to face me, and I see her reaction in ultra-slow motion. At first, I don’t think she recognizes who I am, but the penny soon drops.

“J-James…?” she eventually asks, stepping close enough to me to touch my long hair.

Staring me in the face, I can’t help but go bright red and look away. “Yeah…it’s me.”

Running her hand down my face, she stops at my chin and makes me look up at her.

“About time,” she laughs, giving me a wide grin. “You look so wonderful in that dress! I did start to wonder if I’d ever see you like this!”

“A-about…time?” I question, fixated on her smile,

“Yeah,” mom replies, bringing her hands to my sides. “Don’t act so surprised. I see you every day! Do you think I wouldn’t notice the clear signs of makeup and the fact you’ve been shaving your legs?”

“Oh….,” I reply, feeling a bit silly. I guess all those dress-up sessions with Steph left their mark.

“Wow…,” Mom continues talking, stepping back to take in my look. “You look stunning. Why is it that men have such killer legs?”

“Huh…?”

“Oh, nothing sweety! Just commenting on how gorgeous you are!”

“T-thanks.”

“Did you buy that dress?”

“Nah,” I reply, looking down at myself wearing it. “It’s Josey’s”

Just as I start to feel at ease, we both turn around to see my young brother glaring at me from the kitchen entrance. His face drops as he looks me in eye.

“What the heck!” he laughs, pointing in my direction. “Why are you wearing a dress!? Are you gay or something!?”

Feeling a lump forming in the back of my throat, I start to tense up and freeze. This was the exact reaction I’d been expecting from him.

“Zack,” mom scolds, stepping between us. “Remember I said James would one day need our love and support?”

Zack looks up at mom, pulls a stupid face, and shrugs.

“Don’t give me that look,” Mom replies. “I told you one day he’d need us to be supportive and loving …. today is that day.”

“Are you sure Mom?” Zack asks, looking at me puzzled. “He looks so silly dressed up like that! Not sure I’m ready for an older sister!”

As Zack continues to give me a bemused look, Mom gives me a smile and a wink. Clapping her hands together, she laughs. “You two…. stop looking so tense! It’s Christmas!”

“Merry Christmas, Zack,” I say, nervously rubbing my arm as he stares.

Zack takes a step forward and looks me up and down. “You must really love her.” He remarks, before walking past me.

Glaring blankly at the wall, trying to take it all in, I smile. I do love him. I love him a lot!

Just as I snap out of it, I hear dad’s heavy footsteps trudging down the stairs. As I wait for him to appear, I stand frozen on the spot.

Shit! This is really happening! He’s about to see me dressed up completely as a girl!

“Merry Christmas Alisma,” he says, yawning and rubbing his eyes. “Can I have a coffee Hunny?”

Like a deer in headlights, my mouth falls open and I just stare vacantly as he walks past me completely oblivious to the fact he’s talking to me and not mom.

Feeling like I’m having an out-of-body experience, I turn and move toward the kitchen counter. Grabbing the coffee pot Mom has already made, I pour dad a cup. As he stands at the cupboard, looking for something to eat, I place the coffee in front of him on the counter.

“Thanks, love,” he replies.

“Frank, sweety…” Mom giggles, having watched our entire interaction. “That’s not me you’re talking to!”

Dad looks back at Mom sitting at the breakfast bar and instantly turns to look at me.

“Oh, biscuits!” he exclaims, stepping back from me in pure confusion. “What the hell!?”

Knowing this is all for the love of my life, I smile and give dad an awkward little wave.

“Is…..that……,” he says, narrowing his eyes as he leans towards me. “You…James?”

Wanting nothing but the ground to swallow me whole, I force myself to answer. “Yeah.”

“Alisma!” Dad gasps, pointing at me. “Have you seen this!?”

Starting to shake with nerves, Dad continues to stare me down.

“Yeah sweety,” Mom answers like it’s not a big deal. “Pretty, isn’t she?”

Dad’s eyes grow wide, and he shakes his head.

“Why James?” he asks, looking worried. “Are you unhappy as a boy or something? I don’t get it.”

Feeling as small as a mouse, standing here in my dress, I try and squeak a response.

“You look so silly,” Dad interrupts me before I can say anything. “Please tell me that’s your mom's dress and you haven’t brought that for yourself, son?”

“It’s Josey’s,” Mom answers for me.

“Oh, I see. Figures it had something to do what them,” Dad grumbles, again looking me up and down with a vacant expression. “I see Steph’s gender confusion is rubbing off on our son. Typical, now my son is acting like some little sissy.”

“Shut up dad!” I screech, gritting my teeth. “Stop talking about him like that. I love him!”

“Him!?” Dad asks, looking at me like I’m stupid.

“Yes!” I answer sternly, stamping a foot.

“So, you’re doing all of this for…. Steph?” Dad asks. “You’re risking being labeled as a sissy boy for her?”

“Him,” I say sternly to correct his mistake. “I’m not risking anything! I just want to be with the person I love and that means telling you guys the truth about me, then so be it!”

“The truth?” dad asks, looking at mom confused.

“Sometimes I feel like I’m a girl stuck in a boy’s body Dad! It hurts me that I have to hide who I want to be!”

As those words leave my mouth, Dad looks speechless. The only person who makes any noise is Zack as he slurps on his orange juice.

“James….” Mom says softly, getting up from the breakfast bar to hug me tight. “I’m proud of you.”

As mom embraces me tight, I can still feel my dad’s gaze burning a hole straight through me.

“Son…,” Dad eventually says as mom continues to hold me tight. “You’re serious? You’re not just doing this for a girl….. are you?”

Desperate not to cry in front of my dad or younger brother, I let out a long breath and nod.

“Even if Steph doesn’t take me back,” I reply, taking a moment to allow to steady my voice. “This is me. Sometimes I want to dress this way. Sometimes I want to feel pretty and be treated like a girl.”

“Gay…,” Zack laughs from the breakfast bar, interrupting my moment of pure heartfelt honesty.

“Shut it, Zack,” Mom and dad shout in complete unison, reacting to my brother’s immaturity.

“What do you mean if Steph takes you back or not?” Dad asks as his entire body language becomes more casual and maybe a little worried for my wellbeing.

“I think he’s breaking up with me,” I answer, looking away and biting my lip to hide the pain.

“What a Silly boy!” Dad laughs, picking up his coffee and taking a long sip. “Are you going to try and win him back?”

“Y-Yeah….,” I say, allowing a smile to creep across my face. “That’s the plan. Josey’s going to give me as a surprise present today. I’m hoping this is going to show him how serious I am about being together.”

Letting go of me, Mom stands next to dad and gives me a reassuring smile.

“Best of luck kiddo,” Dad grins, slapping me roughly on the shoulder with one arm. “You must really love her to wear such a get-up! I gotta say, takes some balls to admit something like that. I’m proud of you too.”

Almost being pushed over, I steady myself on my heels.

“James…,” Mom smiles, reaching behind her neck to remove her ruby antique necklace. “Having had two boys, I planned on giving this to your daughter—if you ever had one.”

Mom holds the golden chain and the ruby pendant out toward me. I look down at it knowing it means a huge amount to her—having been her grandmothers.

“Seems only right that you have it.” mom says, reaching up under my long hair and around the back of my neck. “A beautiful piece of jewelry should be worn by a girl just as stunning.”

As she does up the clasp and allows the neckless to fall to my bare chest, she gives me an emotional smile.

“You go win Steph back sweety,” Mom whimpers, brushing the tears from her eyes. “We are all rooting for you!”

Wanting to gush out all my emotions at once, I bit my lip hard and hold back the tears. “Thank you.”

I struggle to believe how supportive they all were as I leave the house. Headed up the street towards Steph’s house, I hold my head up high.

As Josey greets me at the door with the widest smile, I couldn’t stop myself from telling her how well coming out went with my family. She’s just as pleased about it as I am!

Still, knowing we have a plan, I agree to follow Josey quietly to sneak me into the house. As we approached the living room, I can hear the family chatting away.

As I enter the living room, Steph’s family welcome me like a long-lost family member. All are extremely positive about my look and how beautiful they think I am. I could almost break down in tears at the touching response. It’s something that I only thought would happen in my wildest dreams!

That’s when they tell me that Steph is yet to come down from her room. What I didn’t know was how upset and depressed he’d been. Having not spoken in days, I was surprised to hear that! It pained me to know that he’d been suffering alone!

All excited about the plan, Josey hides me behind the Christmas tree. As Josey goes upstairs to fetch Steph from his room, I wait nervously, hoping to high heaven this is going to work!

As I hear Steph complaining and whining about coming down, I look at the ruby pendant mom had given me. Just knowing I’m out and I’m free… gives me the confidence I need to win him back!

“Argh you guys,” I hear Steph whine, clearly being forced to join them all. “I told you I’m not feeling Christmas this year. I just want to be left alone.”

“Don’t be like that,” Josey giggles. “We’ve all got you a little something that might cheer you up!”

Still hiding behind the tree, it’s clear I haven’t been seen. Listening in as Steph reluctantly sits on the sofa, Josey stands beside the tree.

“Close your eyes….,” she playfully commands.

“Fine,” Steph huffs. “I am going straight back to bed after though.”

Josey reaches behind the tree and starts gently pulling me out. As I look at her, she’s putting a single finger on her lips to tell me to be quiet.

As I step over some unopened presents, Josey stands me in front of Steph. Looking down at him, my heart skips a beat. I’ve missed him so much!

Stepping in front of me, Josey runs her fingers through my long hair and smiles.

“Good luck,” she whispers, giving me a wink.

As she steps back, I grin as wide as I can. So wide, I feel my facial muscle straining.

“Open your eyes!” Josey shouts, clapping her hands with excitement.

Slowly, I watch Steph open her eyes and look up at me.

“James…?” she questions, rubbing her eyes. “James!?”

“H-hi,” I answer, almost unable to speak for fear of rejection.

“JAMES?!” he repeats, looking around the room, clearly terrified at his family's reaction to me standing in the middle of their living room wearing one of his sister’s dresses.

As Steph Stands, looking completely flabbergasted, I reach out and take his hands.

“I’ve missed you!” I say softly, stopping her from franticly looking around the room in a blind panic.

Steph looks up at me, and I run my hand through her short hair. “I love you Steph. I want to be with you no matter what!”

Stunned, Steph brings a hand to her mouth and gasps.

“See me Steph,” I plea. “See who I want to be. See me for who I am! Please, don’t give up on me! Please, I love you with all my heart.”

“Stop!” Steph groans, shaking her head. “Stop it now!”

Her face looks panicked and worried. That pain in my chest grows stronger and more intense! She’s about to reject me!

“How can you love me!?” Steph howls as tears form in her eyes. “I’m not good enough for you James. I will only cause you pain! You should find a real girl to make you happy!”

My mouth drops as Steph appears to move away from me. My heart feels like it’s about to crack open!

“W-what…?” I manage to ask, feeling my world crashing and burning around me.

“I’m not good enough for you!” Steph repeats with pain in her voice. “Although I love you completely James, I can’t offer you a future. I can’t be what you deserve. I don’t want to ruin your life… You’ve gotta understand! That’s why I’m not speaking to you—it’s better for us both this way! It’s breaking my heart even looking at you right now!”

“A future without you is not worth living!” I frantically reply, bringing my hands to her face. “The girl in me needs you! The boy in me needs you! I NEED YOU!”

Touching her chin, I raise her face to look her directly in the eyes. Trying to look past his tears, I must keep trying! I can’t let out love just dissolve away like that.

“Steph,” I say softly, bringing my face closer to his. “I’m out. I’ve come out to my family. I’ve come here dressed as the girl, desperate to show you how much you mean to me.”

Staring at me intently, I close my eyes and bring my lips close to hers.

As our lips touch, I feel a spark between us. Placing my top lip over hers, I kiss her!

“James…,” she whispers, bringing her hands around my waist, but not returning my kiss. “I want to transition in the future. That means I won’t be able to have kids. Are you sure you really want that? Are you sure really want me like that?”

“I love you,” I whisper back, passionately kissing her again. “Nothing else matters to me.”

Still not kissing me back, I feel her hands move down to my backside. Pressing his body against mine, I know my words are getting through to him!

“No matter what?” he asks gently, as I open my eyes to the sight of tears streaming down his face.

“Always,” I answer.

Instantly, he grabs my backside and squeezes tight. Bringing me in closer, he kisses me back with sheer lust

“Not matter what!” I reply, feeling like I could float away in with sheer elation!

As we kiss, I hear the entire family shout out in Joy. When we stop, Steph embraces me tight as we both awkwardly smile at their excited reactions.

“About time you too made up!” Josey laughs, slapping Steph on the back. “Guna be nice to have you all happy again brother.”

Steph nervously giggles, before looking up at me with the big, beautiful blues.

“Thank you for this!” Steph grins, kissing me again. “Thank you for the best present ever!”

I kiss back and throw my arms around her shoulders. “No,” I reply, stealing another kiss. “Thank you. I’d never have come out of it wasn’t for you.”

“You’re welcome beautiful,” Steph replies, blushing. “Merry Christmas, my sexy little Jasmine!”
