The current Supreme Court justices are engaging in what is called and “open draft”. This is where they all get together, share unadulterated opinions and hypotheticals in order to debate their side of a certain issue. After listening to all opinions, one member creates a draft that is then passed along to all justices for editing/approval. This leads to more debate ultimately concluding in a final draft that is delivered to the public as their ruling. What is happening now is the open draft has been leaked. This has let the people peer behind the curtain at the process and get out of context opinions from each justice. This is the first time a leak has happened. Personally I think this hurts the integrity of the process by threatening open and contextualized dialogue between colleagues for fear things will be made public and they will be shot in Musk Town Square. TLDR: shit is wack cuh

It's actually the first time a leak of a full draft opinion has been leaked, but there's been several of instances, where the draft decision of justices has been leaked before the decision being made, so I'm not certain if this is truly a historic event. It's interesting to me to see some of the arguments they've made in justification of the decision being heavily scrutinized for some fairly good reasons in my opinion (particularly, the historical precedence argument as if we take it at face value it seems to set up an argument that both anti-slavery and interracial marriage shouldn't have been allowed on the basis that they weren't in the constitution initially)
