I loved your reaction to this! The amount of tears shed around the world just for this episode 😭😭 also earlier Joel was telling Ellie how it started and that it was probably spread through flour, pancake mix and whatnot, if you remember in the first episode they avoided eating any of those by sheer luck, the pancakes for breakfast, the raisin cookies, he forgot the birthday cake.. yet sadly Sarah still had to die 😔

One thing I have to point out about the cordyceps fungus, it's actually a real thing that only infects ants and some other insects and takes over their brains, the director of the video game saw this in 2009 on a nature documentary on National Geographic and that's how he got the idea for the game! And in the game once the host dies, the fungus still lives and grows mushrooms out of their bodies that release spores into the air to infect anyone that comes by (just like real life) and they had to wear masks, but they changed that in the show and there's no talk about spores or wearing masks, they replaced it with the "veins on the ground that alerts the others nearby when you step on them"
