If you are truly a creator, of any kind, not even just an artist like me... if you are, you probably would know that feeling, when you look at your old artworks, then look at your newest artworks, but then look at what other artists do and realize that you are stagnating. Not enough progress, or progress in the wrong direction, or just plain stagnation.

Sometimes you don't even know how you managed to do that amazing artwork not long ago (Spartan Girl), but do some "meh/okay" artworks next time (Yoko). Usually it is because you are forgetting or ignoring certain steps in the workflow until the last moment, when no time left. Steps that are essential to make that artwork better.

Not long ago I looked at what Riot Artists do. I forgot that I was learning from their artworks, and I forgot that I wanted to work in Riot Games. Right now I'm drawing just for the sake of earning money on Patreon, rather than drawing for the sake of drawing... but that is what creators should do - create just because they like to create, not because they need to create, nor for the sake of creating.

After 2 years I'm still don't know what direction I want to go with my artworks. Just make them sexy fan arts (Imperial Guard, Seras Victoria)? Or more serious with a sexy tone (Kayle, Yoko)? Or more "Fan Art" than sexy (The Last Word, Yoko)? Every time it is just a random direction... and because of no clear path, something is missing from my artworks... the primal idea of what they should be. A Soul.

I looked at my late pre-Patreon artworks: Dark Angel, Oryx, Ornn, Evelynn. There was an idea in all of them... but now I do... I do just fan arts of characters, most of the time. Nothing special most of the time.

This month I decided to do more horizontal artworks. Horizontal positioning gives me a goal - to make artworks that people can put on their desktops.

This week I decided to move in the direction of "Sexy".

And today I decided to put more time and effort into composition and dynamic in my Artworks. However, because of that there will might be less details, because less time will be left for details... but details mean nothing when the artwork is unimpressive and uninspiring.

Try something new. Paint a miniature, write a story, take a day off. Or draw something you've never considered before. It's bound to get boring as a job but that just means you are ready to grow and learn something new. That's good. And so is your art.

I mean, you could open for a random monthly commission, if anything "stagnation" comes from never confronting oneself if not with oneself only and alone. You get to define your style extremely well that way but you also plateau pretty quickly.

While it is always good to appreciate and try to learn from other artists, it's also important to realize what you have accomplished and what your own talents are. All artists think little of their own work, they just see the flaws and the "could have been" and "should have done differently", its easy to loose sight of what you have done and just how impressive the finished product is to others. That old saying that Art is never finished just abandoned is very accurate, I cant think of any of the creatives I know who is ever completely pleased with what they produce, its natural to doubt and feel depressed in that way, it is how most art is. From my perspective I wish I could take the styles and techniques you use in your art and integrate them into my own, I predominatnyl do a more comic-book style or focus more on scenes and landscapes. being able to capture the body like you do is endlessly impressive. TLDR: Don't sell yourself short, your good and as you wish you could improve your style by looking at others, others do the exact same thing with what you produce.

Direction eh? This makes me think "is this how artist end up joining these long slow little projects?" Meeting someone who desperately wants to realize a concept in their head but does not have the skills? As one of the skillless I wholeheartedly understand the "I want to join RIOT so I will improve" you are one of the artists that made me pick up a digital pen in an attempt to turn words into something more. If you really don't know what you want to do and have given up on the idea of working for RIOT maybe do one commission or donation to a little game project there are countless who would love your assistance. Someone there may inspire you or try to hire you or maybe you will fall in love with their dream and want to be a part of it.

This is something that happens every so often with any creative mind. The important thing is to not be a hater for yourself. You are your own biggest critic but that's what you should be, a critic. There is a fine line between critique and disdain and if you feel yourself stagnating (which personally I dont think you are) then you need to evaluate and see what you can do better. Improvement doesnt happen overnight and if there is a specific goal you have been chasing then go for it! Everyone who truly appreciates the work you do (like myself and many others) will follow your work because we love your art. Keep your chin up, analyze what you need to do and get to it. You dont have to put yourself on an unrealistic deadline however it is important to have one so you're motivated to get something done. Not a single one of "The Greats" in any aspect of life got there without failure. It's essential to growing and you're just taking one more step on your path. Remember, "A true master is an eternal student." 😊

Self reflection is so important and easy to ignore, kuddos for looking inward!

But I'm not bored from drawing. Every day the first thing I do in the morning, just in the next few minutes after waking up, is drawing. Every minute that I don't spend on drawing makes me depressed because I want to draw. And I can't fall asleep because I'm thinking about drawing tomorrow.

I'll admit, I learned of your artwork because it was lewd. I enjoy it! But I also enjoy seeing an artist just create what they like solely because they like it. No matter what happens, I'm here to see it happen, and I hope I can help give you the encouragement you need.

I've seen way too many good artists go that way on Patreon, and other platforms. Once they can make a good income on art, their work becomes mechanistic. Every new drawing is always the same. They abandon creativity and their own ideas by drawing whatever makes money and what people ask them to draw instead of what they want to draw. I wouldn't want to see that happen to you.
