Note the advertisement on the left side and the dilapidated building

I am constantly confronted with crumbling buildings, dilapidated structures or graffiti spoiling the frame for 10 years now.

This problem is everywhere, not just in Odessa or Europe, but in any city where I have worked. During a photo shoot in Budapest homeless people were sleeping in the background, in Paris Afro-French people were spraying graffiti near the Eiffel Tower and in Prague I came across a destroyed part of a bridge in the city centre.

What to do in such a situation? Unfortunately it is impossible to foresee everything and photo shoots have to take place in places where there has been vandalism or where the state has not had time to rebuild part of the city.

The first thing I recommend is using an open aperture when taking pictures. My favourite aperture is 1.2 (Canon 50 1.2L) because at that aperture the background is very blurred and the focus is on the model.

The second step is editing in photoshop. I always try to avoid unnecessary processing, but I admit that photos with a pretty girl and ruined walls won't look attractive. It's more of a trashy nude, and I don't shoot that kind of stuff.

So, I'll have to resort to editing in photoshop.
