I knew I shouldn't have done it. I read posts about how this will fuck up your computer. But after a month or so of not updating windows 10, it started popping up every hour on the hour "Reset and update?" 

I finally caved in and updated last night before bed. I wake up this morning to a computer that wouldn't boot. After hours of fixes (that didn't work) I finally restored my comp to a previous version. Such a nightmare!

My advice is that if windows is telling you to update, tell windows to fuck off...

IDK, I always update my surface whenever it tells me to and i have never had a problem over the past 2 years

You can turn it off by using the group policy, even in a standalone non-business-PC <a href="https://www.rizonesoft.com/disable-windows-10-updates-group-policies/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.rizonesoft.com/disable-windows-10-updates-group-policies/</a>
