With this round, especially, I've often wondered how I would have voted if I'd have come across Kingdom when it aired. At that time I knew nothing about kpop (except maybe a few misconceptions), so would have been totally fresh and neutral. In this round I would have been torn between Stray Kids and BtoB. stray Kids was just...omg. Loved that stage. Love that song. But BtoB pretty much hit on my biggest passion: musical theatre. Yes, it was a movie within a movie (and technically within a movie) and as a master in Lit I adore frame narratives as well. And it was jazzy. And it had gorgeous vocals. So it hit all my buttons. But ...anyway, would have been torn. For me, Ikon and Ateez relied too heavily on big stars. And although BtoB brought in an idol as well, she didn't sing. She was there to help the narrative. But Lisa just tore up the stage for Ikon. ANd Ikon was doing really great, but when she came on...she overshadowed them. And the same happened with Ateez. The second half of their performance was overshadowed by bigger stars. And that was a shame. Because they really didn't need that. Ateez is great on their own. Anyway, I can't remember if they show the public voting in episode 10.

I did feel mostly the same as you about all the performances. They were all good, but some just felt like a little bit was missing. The ones that stayed in my memorie the most where BtoB, StrayKids and Ikon. For me the thing with Ateez (as much as I normally love nearly everything they do) was that it somhow didn´t feel finished. Now in my defence for the next thing I´m going to say: I love classical music, I sing in Choirs and had some training in opera singing, but when they started singing 'Freude schöner Götterfunken (ode to joy)' I burst out laughing. I feel horrible about it, but that just was my reaction. I think a huge reason for that was that I´m german and that piece is so overdone (as beautiful as it is) and then mixed with the beat, sounded like something I would hear at weird music shows here (so kinda like a meme). Of course people who didnt grow up with that wouln´t feel this way and they probably had a way better time seeing Ateez´performance.

I have to agree with both of you as well. Stray Kids ans BtoB really managed to pull me in from when I first watched the episode. And Ateez kinda lost me for a second with the classical singing. I don't remember the first time I watched the Ateez performance but I might have laughed as well, I kinda did when watching Shawn's reaction because I had forgotten about the classical singers. After Kingdom first aired there were quite a few performances I would rewatch/listen to quite often, but apart from SKZ and BtoB I never really rewatched any of the performances from this round (I rewatched the mixed group performances from Mayfly a lot).

I felt the same about Ateez’s performance this round. I liked how they added Odeto Joy, but felt they needed to go back to their song at the end instead of ending with the opera. As for SF9, I almost died. Had they ended with a little bit of dance in the rain room, I definitely wouldn’t be here typing this.

For Ateez it's VERY lore heavy performance. It's why they said it's for the fans specifically. That's basically the final battle in their extensive storyline and we are not even caught up with it now 2 years later. The way Jongho throws away the crown means that they know it won't lead them to win the competition but they still wanted to give this performance to atiny knowing there might not be another chance to go so grand with it. And I saw multiple people (me included) tearing up at the first watch so it definitely hit for those who it was meant to, just wanted to point this out.
