The Dangerous Myth Of The #Girlboss

YouTuber and film critic Lindsay Ellis takes over the TFD YouTube channel to dissect the role of the "#Girlboss" in pop culture — and what our depictions of women in roles of power say about gender, money, and corporate culture on a larger scale. Regarding Peggy's apparent failure to bring up other women: She does encourage Megan throughout her brief stint as a copywriter, and she does actively try to help Joan a) when she is made the subject of a sexually harassing cartoon and b) when she begins moving into account management.

I know the girlboss title came with a price in most films or stories but damn. Trying to search through my brain archives for just ONE film in which the boss lady didn't have to sacrifice anything for being just that, the only one I can think of is Vanessa Branch in Suburban Girl, possibly, but she's hardly even in it. Also most other girls in the film talk behind her back. I'll definitely be more observant when it comes to the girlboss lady character from now on. Thanks for the video!
