New Staff & More Videos: Current Progress & The Plan (Patreon)
Content
Let’s talk about staff! As you know we’ve began the hiring process. It’s going well, but isn’t the type of thing that should be talked about publicly, especially when it’s ongoing.
Short Term
Our first goal has been to bulk out the news channel’s writing team. This will allow us to hit stories better & faster. With Matt & I’s schedules being packed, new content often gets released in a “minimum viable product” state. That’s not to say they’re bad videos - they are certainly received well, it’s just that we’re often very aware of how tight the timing is, and how some stories would benefit from more writing time.
With this problem solved, we’ll have more time devoted to research. There’ll also be a lot less general chaos, which will have positive knock on effects across the organisation. Right now we have two people doing 3 peoples work, which just isn’t sustainable. I think we’ll have made significant progress on this front within the next 45 days.
Next, we’re going to need another editor. Matt & I ran the numbers, and both channels at full capacity is going to come out to around 60 hours of editing, and that’s with fast edits. When this has happened in the past Matt or myself have hopped in to edit, but that’s always resulted in us loosing writing time.
It couldn’t be more clear that we’re going to need a new editor. We have already secured the needed office space, so expect to see a job posting in the near future.
Long Term
The above hires will greatly stabilise us. This’ll allow me to spend more time directing the origination. That means working on future series & further expansion. For the Warcraft channel, this means the zone by zone lore of World of Warcraft. For the news channel, well we have a few ideas, but I’m not ready to commit to anything yet. Right now most of our problem boil down to be doing 2-3 peoples jobs (poorly) - so once that’s in a more reasonable position, well who knows what’ll happen. It’ll certainly make future improvements far more likely.
