So the thing about the maps, Lena had actually studied the map but didn't properly assess how the terrain would have changed according to the weather and other variables until the last moment. Once Lena realized that she didn't have real time information at the speed necessary from her seat, she was too late to have the 86 avoid the danger. Also, the problem addressed with Lena after her first death to the team, is that just as evil as malice in racism is pity. Lena wasn't going to ask them for their real names, it had never crossed her mind to learn their real names. Privilege is invisible to those who have it...Lena thinks that trying to make their enslaved lives better makes her a good person, but to the 86 she is still just a person sitting in a chair directing them while they are risking their lives. Lena considered herself a part of the team and the 86 consider Lena to just be a naive slaver. Showing pity to those treated beneath you isn't building a friendship with them, its patronizing...and that's why the 86 tolerate her but don't care for her still

yeah i get that , its kinda hard to separate the individual from the entire caste system aswell. Thats why i think she needs to physically put herself closer to the battlefield or go to their barracks if she really wants to become closer to them. thats really dangerous and stupid but if thats what she wants i think thats what she has to do to prove her intentions.
