Lelouche has assumed the throne! I can't say I didn't see that coming, but, I didn't see that coming! AND he geassed the whole room like he always wanted! AND Suzaku is being his "Knight of the Zero"! AND it's all on public television!!

What do you think of Charles's plan though? Do you think C.C. was right that he was selfish? Or was his plan actually good? Or maybe was Lulu being selfish?

Y'all are spot on with the student council dynamic. That's exactly how I picture it in my head. The student council is the nexus that ties together all the aspects of the story. And Rivalz is the center point of the student council. That is his only purpose. To hold everything together and tie each character back to the normal student life they all had. It was mentioned that Lelouch's geass will grow more powerful the more he uses it, and when it's fully awakened it will appear in both eyes. I believe this situation was just a perfect catalyst for completing the rest of the awakening, and so it happened right when he needed it most. Like a thriving under pressure kind of thing. I have a LOT to say about this episode, so I'll continue in the replies.

My understanding of how the show explains god and the collective unconscious is this. Consciousness itself IS god. God is the only conscious being that exists. Time and space are illusions that god created to separate things and produce the perception that there is a Self and an Other. The consciousness with which human beings perceive the world is god's consciousness. That's why it's the collective consciousness. Every single person is experiencing consciousness together as part of god. The unconscious mind is the part of the human being that is connected to the collective. The differences between people in terms of physical matter, biology, temperament, personality, and ideas are products of the illusions of time and space and are the reason why we believe we are separate. With that said, I believe that Charles's plan was to destroy time, which is just an illusion of the collective unconscious. That means there would be no cause and effect. No life and no death. Reality would theoretically become a wonderland where whatever you desire is. But whose desires does it follow? Charles was going to destroy the current illusion and replace it with his own. A closed loop where everyone is happy and everything goes the exact way he wants it to; the story told, beginning to end, concluded. Lelouch rejects this because forcing people to act and feel a certain way isn't truth. He knows this firsthand from his geass power. Charles and Marianne wanted to get rid of time and force their reality on everyone, aka the collective unconscious. Hence why C.C. came to the conclusion that they only loved themselves. Since god (Kinda looks like Jupiter to me) is an amalgamation of everyone's will, it required this sword of akasha thing to override everyone's will for the sake of one ego (Or two). Lelouch just used his geass to connect with the collective will of everyone and say, "Hey don't let that douche tell you what to do, keep doing your thing." And god said, "Bet." Then destroyed the things that were trying to control it. Now time marches on, and cause and effect are still a thing. Which is kinda sad for C.C. And also Lelouch since that means he still killed everyone he loves... but he's willing to live with that because consequences and a hopeful future where life could be better are the only things that make life worth living at all. At least, that is my own interpretation from my own understanding and perception. Now ALL HAIL EMPORER LELOUCH!
