ohmahgah! what will Light do next?? 😆

The reaction L had to Shinigami makes me think he's had some trauma in the past to do with them. And speaking of Shinigami, we also get a bit of lore on them which is apparently infrequently given. 

We came up with a lot of theories to do with the Shinigami today. Do you have any?

We know that Shinigami can see the names and lifespan of all humans. If we assume that it is indeed the giving of life that kills the Shinigami then that means when Gelus looked at Misa that night he would have seen her lifespan was about to reach 0. So when he took the psycho's life he allowed Misa to continue living past when her lifespan was set to hit 0. If he was looking at a random person off the street and decided to kill them, he would first see their lifespan, realize they're about to die, and then pick a different target. The show seems to go with the approach that every human's death is preordained, and that's what their lifespan represents. Shinigami are given authority over death. They can take a life on a whim, and even benifit from it rather than be punished for it. But granting life is not their domain. It's assumed that they are destroyed for going against the natural order. But I like the idea that they're instead redeemed.

so it comes down to the intent behind the kill? Because they wouldn't know if someone with a longer life span is about to cause someone elses life to end if they dont kill them. i may be confusing myself lol. I guess i am hitched on the fact that people have a pre ordained expiration date but shinigami can kill whoever they want whenever they want.Unless even the shinigami are factored in.
