Lena's uncle sees the world for what it is, and he has given up because he doesn't see the difference that the few can accomplish...while Lena is still idealistic and hasn't given up trying to change things for the better. Her uncle feels bad about sitting idly by and not backing Lena more, also feeling that the Magnolia deserves what is coming to them for their lack of humanity towards the 86.
