🚨This Month’s Theme: Celebrating Women’s History Month🚨

Friends, we are once again celebrating Women’s History Month with a March Fan Favorites focused solely on music performed by women. (I know I initially floated the idea of a duets Fan Favorites. We’re going to do that later this year, I promise.) We are looking for your favorite music that heavily features performances from female singers/instrumentalists. For example:

  • Dolly Parton
  • Aretha Franklin
  • Heart
  • Sister Rosetta Tharpe
  • Joni Mitchell
  • Tina Turner
  • Joyce DiDonato
  • Sandy Denny
  • The Wailin Jennys
  • Yuja Wang
  • Sarah Willis

🚨RULES/INFO:

  • Add your submissions directly in the fan-favorites channel on Discord
  • Read and follow all instructions and info in the StickyDoug post pinned to the bottom of the fan-favorites channel on Discord
  • The submission needs to be a publicly available YouTube video
  • Avoid songs previously covered on the channel or Patreon
  • The song or piece should be less than 10 minutes in length
  • Only one submission allowed per person per month

🚨THIS MONTH’S TIMETABLE:

  • Discord Submissions Start: Thur, March 7
  • Discord Submissions End: Thur, March 21
  • Patreon Poll Starts: Fri, March 22
  • Patreon Poll Ends: Mon, March 25

Thank you, friends, I’m excited for this Fan Favorites! Can’t wait to hear your submissions.

How about Aimee Mann? She's got years of writing killer melodies and ascorbic lyrics and always from the pov of a strong intelligent woman.

We have some really lovely female voices in the more folk-orientated world of song. A lady called Kate Rusby, who has the voice of an angel, and has been a stalwart of the folk scene here in UK for a while now- "Cruel" is a great song of hers. Two sisters- Rachel and Becky Unthank are a bit more traditional, there's a beautiful song called "The King Of Rome" (it's about a racing pigeon...and people's dreams to be more profound), check out the live version with the Grimethorp Colliery band, beautiful brass. A band of sisters called The Staves, from my home town- Watford- are really good too. They've worked with Justin Vernon (Bon Iver), three voices which blend beautifully. A newer voice on the scene is Katharine Priddy, just about to release her 2nd album here. Off her first album "The Rocks Beneath" the song song "Euridice" is really cool; and I know Doug likes a bit of Greek mythology. Another sister band is Sweden's First Aid Kit, plenty of good stuff to search out from those girls.

A lot of good suggestions. Which one are you going to pick?
