Hi y'all,

After hearing some Led Zeppelin again in the latest Fan Favorites, I thought that it's past time to get to some more LZ in the Extended Play Lounge. I'm really interested in the band's approach to rhythm and their overall sound...and I'm eager to give Robert Plant more chances to impress me. :)

I listened to Houses of the Holy in Episode 13. I've listed the band's other 5 top albums (by sales...in order). Choose the one you think I should listen to next.

III for me, easily. Their best songwriting and most intricate sound is on that album. IV is okay, but lower for me. I and II have some strange blues/hard rock tracks I don't enjoy. And Physical Graffiti is a good three sided album, not four, suffers from several really unnecessary tracks.

Physical Graffiti is far and away their most complete work as far as I am concerned and it gets my vote. LZ IV is probably their best known album and it contains the arguably equally as good as Stairway to Heaven song The Battle of Evermore which features the late Sandy Denny in the only duet LZ ever recorded. Lyrically it's straight out of The Lord of the Rings which I was reading for the first time shortly after IV was released so a double whammy of wonderfulness for me.

Physical Gravity is also a double album ;)

Looking at the poll, I see Physical Graffiti is leading with 43% of the vote. Last time we did one of these polls, Houses of the Holy won with 49%. So it looks like Physical Graffiti might not have beaten Houses of the Holy after all.

Led Zep II is still my all-time favorite Zep album but I voted for Physical Graffiti because I wanna see Doug do a double-album of Led Zeppelin -- and because it covers more ground than does LZ II.

I think that's not comparable. That first poll didn't have Physical Graffiti. I can imagine PG fans liking HotH a lot, so they caused a voting bias. I'm still baffled how HotH won that time, but I believe this is the only reasonable explanation of that. And now HotH is out of the equation. And if PG fans are in general HotH fans, that might not work out the other way. I expect HotH fans to choose IV more often in this poll. And that also explains why IV has 32% this time and 26% in the first poll.

Lol that's a lot of Robert Plant for Doug if PG wins 😆

I'm hoping, really, that anything BUT IV wins. I'm trying desperately to keep the promise that I made to myself to never hear "Stairway to Heaven" again for the rest of my life. I'm thinking that even a critical analysis from Doug couldn't save this turkey.

I am with you, friend! However, it is through YT reactions that I was able to listen to it again. Not that I want my vote to lose, but I hope you will find a cure!

I’m a huge PG fan and I’m baffled how HotH won also, it just seems like a weaker album compared to the rest

Love IV, but III is the one to go with, an eclectic mix, showcasing a wide variety of styles.
