King Crimson - Fracture Holy shit, Doug! You really owe it to yourself to hear this terrifyingly difficult piece. Robert Fripp himself has called it "impossible to play." As you listen to it, it's important to keep in mind that this performance was recorded live. I can only imagine what it must have been like to witness that.

John Baird

Try Steve Hackett, Valley of the Kings from Genesis revisited Vol:1 heard him playing it live on the Renfrew Ferry gig a few years back. Totally stunning.

Karl Stubsjoen

So agreed! Looking at Steve Hackett playing guitar is like looking at a magician. He said “my old band” never did “The Fountain of Salmacis” live, because it was to difficult 🤩. He does it live … He’s playing in Oslo 16. May. I’ll be there 😉

Karl Stubsjoen

I just remember an early Steve Hackett song; “Spectral Mornings”. The first Hackett solo song I heard. This a non-vocal song, his guitar 🎸 only doing the singing.

Would love to see you react to either 'Cry you a song' or 'Pibroch' from Jethro tull

Bill Coonley

Odyssey, by the Dixie Dregs, from the album What If Jungle Strut, by Santana, from Santana 3 Well You Needn't, by Danny Gatton and Joey DeFrancesco, from Relentless

Steve Morse is most known for his work with Deep Purple, but the bands he was in before are also very interesting. He was voted "Best Overall Guitarist" by Guitar Player magazine for five years in a row. He is an unparalleled virtuoso on his instrument and a skilled composer. He uses unconventional scales and harmonies and is a master of counterpoint - in baroque style or jazz rock - or the fusion of this all. His chord progressions - or cadenzas - are amazing. 1) Night Meets Light (7:47) from the 1978 Dixie Dregs album "What If" – very atmospheric and intriguing at the same time. I've heard, this piece was the reason for Roger Glover to chose him for Deep Purple 2) I'm freaking out (9:06) from the 1980 Dixie Dregs album "Dregs of the Earth" – I remember you used this expression in your Frank Zappa video and this composition fits perfectly 3) Go for Baroque (3.56) from the 1981 Dregs album "Unsung Heroes" – the name speaks for itself (even my father – a huge fan of J.S. Bach – was impressed) 4) the Whistle (2:17) from his 1984 album "the Introduction" – a sort of cameo, I think, of sheer beauty 5) Clearly Quite Absurd (5:25) from the 2005 Deep Purple album " Rapture of the Deep " – dramatic chord progressions over a huge span of the circle of fifths 6) Omnis Morse Aequat (3:36) from the 2008 album "Angelfire" – a play on words from the singer Sarah Spencer relating to the expression "omnia mors aequat" (death makes all equal)

Cliffs of Dover!! Especially the live in Austin 1988 version

If you're posting here and in Discord that's great, but I don't think I've seen many of these up for voting in Discord. If you're posting only here, do you realize that this is the hardest route to get your song into the list? Essentially you'll need someone that meets all the following (a) Reads your message here (b) Has not suggested anything yet on Discord for this month's FF (c) Has the same opinion as you (d) Spends the time preparing the post in Discord The chances of finding that someone aren't very high... If you really want to see your song up for voting, instead of later complaining "why is song xyz not in the list for voting?", you should really go over to The Daily Doug Discord and enter the suggestion there

Ricardo Hector Jimenez Valdes

If the link isn’t working just write: Spectral Mornings 2015 . . . Look for Beggs, Booth, D’Virgilio, Hackett, Longdon, Reed on credits, and . . . enjoy my friend !

I saw that Felipe did enter Cliffs of Dover in Discord 🙂 It has been doing pretty well and it currently has enough votes to make the cut for the Patreon round of voting

Continuing on the Jethro Tull band wagon. ' We Use to Know' from the album 'Stand Up' is a killer guitar driven song. It has been said this song was the inspiration for ' Hotel California'

Ray Sincere

If someone is only posting here, their song won't make it to the list period. The only way to make get a song into the list is by submitting it in the Discord. It's a great place, too. A lovely community. No reason not to join it.

Thank you in advance for the Procol Harum(Procol had a HAREM ?????) piece that you are doing on Thursday. I have been truly nagging you for about 2 years to get you to present your reaction to this magnum opus. This was probably the first extended piece of prog ever released, and features Robin Trower on guitar, This was one of the long form pieces that "underground" radio used to play from beginning to end, commercials be damned. Others included side 2 of "Abbey Road", and "In-A Gadda-Da-Vida" It does pass the 17 minute mark, which was "In Held...", studio features Robin Trower on guitar and his solos during this magnum opus are magnificent. The live version features the orchestra, but the guitar is different than Robin Trower. Even if you don't react to the studio version, please listen to it anyway and tell me you don't think that it supersedes the live version. The ending section of this piece you will NOT believe. After you are stunned by this piece, check out "Whaling Stories" from 1970. We love you & Megan, and the sanity you have brought to the covid insanity.

I meant to comment that 17 minutes was extremely long, even for a piece of prog. Sorry for the incomplete sentence. BTW, if you have seen mrmusic248 requesting "In Held..." for the last 2 years, that was me.

I had to join Patreon to have a way of getting this info to you, but it was worth it.
