For our next Extended Play Lounge, I'm returning to our Master List and selecting some progressive rock albums from the 1970s that have high numbers of recommendations.

For ELP: I only know Take a Pebble and Lucky Man

For GG: I've only heard The Advent of Panurge & Knots

For Jethro Tull: I don't know any songs from this album

For Kansas: I think I only know Dust in the Wind

For Supertramp: I think I only know Take the Long Way Home.

The voting will go through Monday. Vote for your favorite! Happy voting!

The 1st time I heard fanfare for the common man was in 1976 in a documentary featuring Aaron Copeland. My father passed away that day. ELP does it justice I still have a tough time listening without crying my eyes out.

Doug: You should listen to "Fanfare for the Common Man". There is a live performance, in winter, from Olympic Stadium Montreal 1977, which is tremendous!!! A real blast (from the past) as it were. This is the best version I have listened to and watched.

I really, really hope Minstrel in the Gallery wins this! It's a wonderful, underrated and underappreciated album. You'll be in for quite the treat. 🙂

Richard Rathbun

Great choices here! I think Doug will love Minstrel.

Despite GG being recently covered in Behind The Score, I voted for Octopus. Gentle Giant is my top3 band, Octopus is my top3 album by them, so I couldn't resist. Actually, Gentle Giant never had a proper EPL (Free Hand was a daily episode on Youtube). Minstrel In The Gallery is in the leading position and I'm also happy about it. It's arguably my favorite JT album. It's their most eclectic one, but that's why it's so appealing and intriguing to me. ELP, Kansas, Supertramp – all great. Maybe for the next time ;)

I think Supertramp had four hits on that album. At least, that's what I remember being played on the radio. "Goodbye Stranger", "The Logical Song", "Breakfast in America", and "Take the Long Way Home". Wikipedia concurs, although apparently the song "Breakfast in America" didn't make it especially far up the charts. In any case, this album really made it big.

Agree with everything there! Though I might give 3 Friends the edge for my favorite GG. Looking forward to seeing my suggestion Schooldays on the next Fan Faves.

EPL, EL&P... oh well, if not now hopefully soon!

Blinky

Minstrel is so great. Ian has just divorced and this album feels the most personal he ever got as a songwriter. Less ironic detachment.

Long-time fan of all. Any one will do!

Love to see Doug react to 'A Passion Play' There is such a mixed feeling amongst JT fans regarding this album. Would love his take on it. Personally, I think it's brilliant

As a ELP fan, i would love to have you react to "Fanfare For The Common Man", played live at Olympic Stadium Montreal, 1977. It's fantastic!

i dont _hate_ Passion Play , just that I prefer probably 6 or so albums more than it. Including Crest of a Knave. probably the weakest of the tull 70s albums IMHO, but I see why people like it.

Alex Libia

It can be a hard listen. Of the 70s albums the weakest for me is a toss between stormwatch and Too Old to Rock n Roll. But these have brilliant moments as well

Steeleye 2112

My favourite Tull album and definitely in my top ten of all time and yes would love to see Doug's reaction especially with a score but that's too much to hope for.
