In October, we are succumbing to the ‘sounds of the season’, as autumn arrives in the northern hemisphere, and Halloween greets us at the end of the month. Personally, I’m not much into ‘scary movies’, but I’ve always been fascinated by songs/music that is intended to make us uncomfortable. So, this month, we are interested in hearing your best picks for songs that sound eerie or scary, songs that are on a scary topic or reference macabre topics, or songs that remind you of scary images/scenes (for instance, from a movie soundtrack).

These are the 18 Finalists from the Discord round of submissions and voting. Your task is to pick up to five that you would like to see in the video at the end of the month.

I'll include as many songs (in order of their score) as I'm able in about an hour-long video.

There is a google sheet with more information (including the submitter's note) for each of the selections: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12KMm9Z7KxRhWYQ0a7fBdRw5u0-cuUdj7YrQkS7jBfWo/edit?usp=sharing

This is an unlisted YouTube playlist that goes through the songs using the links provided: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLO0n3LrUjxKrgGz0wKcRDchWD9P2BZoPG

Happy voting! We'll run this poll through next Monday, October 24.

Come on guys. We need to see Doug's reaction to A Little Piece of Heaven!

John Clark

Absolutely chuffed to see The Lady Lies on the list, it's absolutely the high point of the And Then There Were Three album. With regards to Careful With that Axe Eugene, the Umma Gumma version is the one which needs listening to.

Blinky

Most of the reaction to that is usually the music video, though. The lyrics are vague enough that they can be interpreted different ways.

Roman S Doc

Come on patreons, please show a bit of love for Shadow Gallery! Thank you!

Actually, Geoff Castellucci from VoicePlay does a very fun version of Bobby Pickett's The Monster Mash.

Randy Hammill

The Amougies performance of Careful with that Axe Eugene is the most epic version available on video: https://youtu.be/kiaFPgFWJDM

I've always prefered Monster Mash performed by the Bonzo Dog Band, with lead vocal by Vivian Stanshall, who was the Master of Ceremonies voice on Tubular Bells

Nick Johnson

Sure the video is great, but take away the video and you still have a Danny Elfman-esque metal song about zombies, written specifically as a silly Halloween song, with horns, clarinets, strings, and a choir.

Oh man i hope A Little Piece of Heaven will be played in that hour. And im really surprised you even consider this kind of song.

Anonymous

Had you included the original Screamin' Jay Hawkins version of "I Put a Spell on You" or Arthur Brown's version, I would certainly have picked that.

I didn't see the original discussion, so I may be foolish in expressing a little disappointment with the absence of Subway Song (The Cure), along with representations from Mr Nightmare himself, Alice Cooper. But hey, I may have to just listen to them now, instead. Oh well. :)

chuck Rowland

Oh hahaha they would all be appropriate..

love CCR and voted for it but I agree, both are superior versions and more halloweeny

Les Mable

Agreed. Some of Geoff's output (with or without VoicePlay) is well worth it's own analysis.

Arrow2theACL

The songs are recommended and voted on Discord before coming to Patreon for a vote.

Ray Sincere

I'm hoping "Alucard" has made it by the skin of its teeth.
