Palm mute is when you rest your picking hand (right hand if you play right handed) on the string to mute the vibration of the string.

Speaking of the fret hand... for me the crazy thing is all the flurry of fast harmonic notes (notated by notes with a diamond head instead of a circle), where you lightly just barely touch the string instead of press it down completely to get more of the harmonics than the fundamental tone. It's a truly innovative thing to play so many of them quickly in a runs like this.

Amazing the music that can evolve when unrestrained by the corporate structural requirements... There's so much fantastic music out there that the shirts have deemed uncommercial but are in fact brilliant evolutions that the public is thirsting for. This is what happened in the '60's. An incredible organic evolution if given the chance. I swear that I'll puke if The Rolling Stones put out another album.
