Ha! I see you took on board my comment about R D Laing a while back - insanity is the only sane response to an insane world...

And the magic music makes my Monday mood. I started today with a nasty custody hearing with a psychopath. I feel this tune today of all days. Limits of the dead = Boundaires of the dead? I spent years defining the limits of human burials...

I looked in the guitar tabs and I think the verse is more or less in A minor, but it starts with the tritonus and its 5 before the tonic. The guitar plays: Eb5, A5, A5, D5, A5, A5, D5 Eb5 (3x), Eb5, D5, C5, A5, C5, D5, C5, B5 (in a loop). So the last chord is also a irregularity because it is a B with a F#.

The thing you have to get a grip on with a lot of mainstream metal is that there is a lot of pedaling off an open bottom string, and if you can identify what that bottom string is, you can build out what they're doing with the pedal. With Slipknot, they play essentially baritone guitars, tuned to AEADGB (and I think some of them actually have 7-strings with the high E on top). So your A is the pedal, and they're building off that.

Slipknot was one of the first bands from my childhood, I really enjoy them, thanks! Corey Taylor has a band called Stone Sour, there he sings almost all the time more melodic, it's still Metal in my opinion, in case you want to take a look 👍🏼😉

Doug, I saw on the livestream earlier that you were looking for metal suggestions and I have one for you. I was surprised to see that the band is not listed in your spreadsheet at all, the band is Dimmu Borgir. They're from Norway and tend to have a lot of orchestrations in their music. As far a songs go, one that I would recommend with vocals is Gateways, a purely instrumental recommendation is Perfection or Vanity.

The Black Queen

Slipknot are perhaps the biggest Metal band of the past 25 years!
