Thank you again for your interest in this new series. We got off to a great start last month, and I'm eager to see how this month's video will come together.

This month, we received 72 submissions of your favorite songs featuring a female vocalist and/or songwriter. It was difficult, but we have narrowed down the choices (based largely on your upvotes) to 16 finalists.

You can vote for up to 5 songs that you would love to see included in the upcoming video.

The top 8 vote-getting songs will make it into the video.
(We'll also include an honorable mention from the list and a sentimental pick not on this list.)

The poll is starting on Tuesday, March 15 and will run through Tuesday, March 22.

Happy voting!

Definitely kate Bush. Love her

Aleksandra

I vote in fact only for Kate Bush. I think she is a superb fantastic, awesome female artist.💖✨️💖 Pink Floyd the great gig in the sky with Clare Torry is the second chosen song. Buttt with ALL the incredible great songs of Kate, she is in my opinion the one to choose. But I hoped for the song This WOMAN's work of her. Its so so beautiful 😍 🤗 But I am already glad she made it to this poll anyway to chose from because I specified a few of her 🎵 ✨️songs.

Jean-Michel LaFontaine

Kate Bush and Tori Amos are certainly my 2 favorite female singers/songwriters.

Clare Torry wrote Great Gig in the Sky, performed it with Pink Floyd and now received royaly payments. However, my favourite version of this song is recorded live in Venice, when Pink Floyd played 'on the water.' I think Janis Joplin is an essential as one of the first rock/blues writers and singers to front her own band in the arena of all the masculine bands. Kate Bush is sublime - the daughter of a Vicar!! She's a perfectionist. Just before Covid, she did a live concert in London. Tracy Chapman almost single handedly changed the way police in the UK handled domestic violence - her song of so much resonance - though not this one. My last vote moved for Fleetwood Mac, the first band I saw. For me, these two ladies forged their writing and musicallity across their band and into making such iconic music. Finally, a thank you for having this choice.

Glad to see Sandy Denny up there, I do hope she makes it through. She had the most achingly beautiful soprano voice and her tragic early death robbed us of a musical genius.

Paul Lowder

No Pat Benatar?

John Clark

I think you will find that Kate Bush is the daughter of a doctor, not a vicar.

Some excellent options. Love to see some Lisa Gerrard, Meredith Monk, Linda Eder, Lara Fabian, Joan Armatrading, Iva Bittova, Nana Mouskouri, Grace Slick or Elephants Gerald. Who knows where the time goes? This one connects more deeply, personally. Diamonds and Rust a close second. I also like Joan's Forever Young.

Clare Torry is misspelled.

For me, the great gig in the sky is never better live. For whatever reason, it's always like a karaoke version. The original is unsurpassed

John B

If you're interested in Sandy Denny, might I suggest The Battle of Evermore by Led Zeppelin. The only song they did with a guest singer

Andrew Wingham

Hi John B. A good debate. On the tour which included the Venice concert, Rachel Fury and David were 'enjoying life together.' There is interplay between them on stage. On this night, as well as the special location, the concert was televised live into Italy. For me, the reason for this song and its singing becomes part of the mystery that is love and its excitement and is so performed. Agreed, Rachel did not author the song. I like the reality of this version. Should I post this on discord? Perhaps so! And thanks for coming back to me. Isn't it great that we have this music and its various versions to consider. Is the Gdansk or Pompeii version of Comfortably Numb the stonger?.......

I sincerely hope that if Diamonds and Rust gets into the mix, the Judas Priest - Unleashed in the East version is also covered. I think it was very tasteful and clever... Interesting list :) (Ripper did a pretty cool version with Priest, but I think it's the Rob Halford take that deserves the most celebration though both are stellar) EDIT: Also if Wuthering Heights makes it, consider Michael Mills take on that song ... Talk about high range singing, I think it's nothing short of mind blowing

Dave Cohen

You need to do more Annie Haslam, Doug.

Maybe miss out Great Gig in the Sky seeing as you'll be listening to Dark Side of the Moon which includes this song
