Hey y'all! I'm excited to introduce our Fan Favorites Series. There's been lots of planning and discussion to get this dialed in. I'm eager to see where it goes. All of the information for the new series, and how you can participate, is included below. If you have questions, please leave a comment below for me to answer.  -Doug-

Overview: The Fan Favorites Series publishes one video per month, focusing on a specific genre or subject area. Members of Helvering’s Army (all patron levels) can choose to submit their favorite pick based on the month’s topic, whether that topic be their favorite guilty pleasure, Beatles song, or desert island track. The community is invited to up-vote submissions to show support for these songs making it to the round of polling. About halfway through the month, Doug will issue a poll with many of the top-voted submissions. In the end, several recommendations will be included in that month’s video, in which Doug will play and react to all of the winning songs.

February Genre: Relationship Songs

- In this month of February, when we celebrate Valentine’s Day, we are interested in learning what relationship songs hit us in the feels every time we hear them. Whether it’s a song about love going great, a tragedy of lost love, love between parent and child, or an epic story of a breakup for the ages, these songs speak to the universality of the human condition. So, we’re looking for your best pick for a relationship song for this month’s Fan Favorites video.

Rules of Engagement:

- Add your submissions in the #fan-favorites channel on Discord
- Each Member of Helvering’s Army is allotted one submission per month in this series.
- To engage the bot for this channel, the format of your submission needs to start with .suggest
-
Then, include the following: Name of Song, Name of Band/Artist, a short backstory (optional), youtube link
- Messages that do not use this suggestion system will be deleted.
- You can discuss suggestions for the fan favorites series in the #recommend-discuss channel.
- Only use public YouTube links.
- We’re looking for individual songs, less than 15 minutes in duration…not full albums or extended odysseys.
- You may upvote your own submissions.
- If your suggestion matches another patron’s, please go ahead and add yours as well. Encourage your peers to upvote both.
- If there are duplicate submissions, their up-votes will be added together to arrive at the community’s vote total for the song.

This Month’s Timetable:

o Submitting/Voting Starts: Wednesday, February 9

o Submitting/Voting Stops: Wednesday, February 16

o Patreon Poll Starts: Thursday, February 17

o Patreon Poll Ends: Monday, February 21

Arpeggio Blues

IT's February 9th, 2022.. a very special and tragic memory.. I was in the Feb 9, 1971 (51 years ago) 6.3 magnitude earthquake in southern California.. the Sylmar Quake of '71.. the dam almost broke.. But I will say, despite what looks like we live in a world where no one really shows interest in the lives of strangers.. When the quake hit, we lost electricity, people were in the path of the Van Norman Dam in the San Fernando Valley (LA) they were evacuating, gas stations had no power to pump the gas.. Needless to say, miraculously everyone, neighbors, cops, firefighters went out of their ways to help anyone in needs, we supplied blankets and food to neighbors. .. The point? In a crisis, we've all come together to handle the disasters.. why can we be this way ALL the time? (It's the maddening and eternal 'paper-chase' that overrides all that we really need and still wait for). Here's a song that is really about 'lost family" member, the Patriarch of a family (Specifically Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater fame) Mike's Dad passed away.. but this song is the remembering of how Mike's dad, encouraged the teenage dream theater members to pursue this dream and never stop. So this is one for Mr. Portnoy.. "THE BEST OF TIMES" is very much worth listening to

Discord allows us a private social media platform. You’ll need a discord account (free), then go the the apps section of your Patreon settings and connect your discord to your Patreon. Then, when you go back to discord, our community should be listed there for you to enter.

You can also go to https://discord.com if you prefer not to install it (possibly some functions are not available if running from the website, but all the essential ones are there)

Hello everyone, I am old, but still romantic. My alltime favorite as a song about a relationship is Eric Claptons „ Wonderfull tonight“. We are about the same age,but the song never lost its fascination.

Arrow2theACL

This was my suggestion. It is doing well with the up-votes, so if it gets enough votes in the polls, it will pass.

Michael Kramer

Hi, Thank you for your comment. English is not my mothertongue. I am from Austria. So I did not fully anderstand all the technical changes. I don‘t know what signing up for discord means and how to handle it. I come from a country with a lot of interest and tradition in music, but not in technics. I enjoy music, no matter if Doug puts it on his playlists or not. Greetings from Austria

Hi Michael. In my younger days, that song was often played in bars at closing time. As long as you were able to stay standing, you could dance to it. It was often the last chance to avoid going home alone.

Michael Kramer

Hi Bruce, In austria we did not have that bartradition. But our intention at privat parties was the same. The two favorit testsongs had to be a little longer: „Sebastian“ by Cockney Rebell“ and of cause „Nights in white satin“ by Moody Blues.
