REPOST: I MEANT TO INCLUDE ATOM HEART MOTHER. THE PREVIOUS POLL HAS BEEN TRASHED. WE'LL USE THIS ONE.

Pink Floyd won the first round of voting. Here's the breakdown:

Pink Floyd - 34% Transatlantic - 26% Marillion - 14% Haken - 13% Spock's Beard - 13%

I'm realizing that I really haven't listened to much of Pink Floyd. I just know a few of their more popular songs. So, even though some of these selections are quite (mainstream), I have not listened to any of these albums in their entirety before. So, vote for the album you'd most like me to listen to at this time.

Happy voting! We'll run this round through Friday the 15th...and I'll plan on recording/releasing the episode on the 16th.

Still DSOM, but a good inclusion!

Walker Bachman

Now you left out Meddle... Which was my vote!

Andy Ambrose

I agree DSOTM is a great album but for me it is way too familiar...

Anonymous

Why are people voting for dark side? By far the most boring album on the list.

Juan Ignacio Quesada

Had voted DSOTM but now I changed to AHM :) In any case, Doug should eventually watch The Dark Side of the Rainbow which is now available on youtube

Anonymous

Shame there's no Meddle. Guess Im voting for Animals then.

Anonymous

Oh. Wow. The Wall is my favorite, Atom Heart Mother is the most weird and interesting, but Dark Side is probably the one to start with.

Juan Ignacio Quesada

I think AHM would be a great start because it's when PF really became a true prog rock band. Although DSOTM is, in my opinion, their best and probably also their most influential album

Bryan Tursk

I think DSOTM and the Wall are so mainstream and most have heard at least bits and pieces. I think WYWH or Animals would be the best reactions. My old school 2 cents. Peace

Nick

Aside from DSOTM - what can you say about it that hasn't already been said? - it's hard to pick from these (but isn't it always?) Animals would give Doug more lyrical meat to get his teeth into, but in the end I opted for WYWH, as it has the whole poignant backstory involving Syd, which would be cool for Doug to discuss...

Arrow2theACL

A reaction to the video of The Wall would be very interesting for Doug to breakdown, but I have never heard the others besides DSOTM. Anyone want to make a case for the others? I'm open to listen to something new.

Animals and Wish You Were Here are their best two albums.

Ricardo Leguizamón

I love seeing how Animals is doing it and so far is the favorite. I love this album and for some reason no many Pink Floyd fans seem to like it.

Neil Slater

I have a lot of time for Wish You Were Here. We actually played the combined version of Shine On You Crazy Diamond from Echoes at my dad's funeral. But I feel like Animals is probably the album I go back to most often, so I went with that.

Wolfgang Brunner

Meddle is missing. Atom Heart Mother has aspects which the latter main stream albums lack, especially the brass arrangement, maybe non functional harmony aspects?

Artur Kinal

I like most of PF albums but for the sake of Doug's reaction I realy see no point in choosing something other than Atom Heart Mother (suite only)

Illume Eltanin

I agree DSOTM is familiar to most of us. But, if Dr. Doug truly hasn't listened to it all the way through in one go, which is the only way to get immersed in it, in my opinion, well... That is where he needs to start. The rest are all awesome, but DSOTM is classic for a reason, nu?

David Marshall

I would have voted for Meddle.

Dale S Josephs

DSOTM is a masterpiece of mainstream-prog fusion, not least because of Alan Parsons' masterful sound engineering of the album. Wall has amazing highs, but really could have been more effective if it were shorter. It suffers from having too much good content to sit on a single album, but not enough to really fill a double LP. Animals is probably the band at their most consistent progginess. WYWH has "Shine On", but I find much of the rest forgettable. Been a while since I've tried Atom Heart.

Frits van Voorst

I voted WYWH, which has everything I like about Pink Floyd. I consider Animals as the tipping point where Roger Waters gets more and more influence: pessimistic lyrics and musically less interesting in my opinion, culminating in The Final Cut and The Wall.

Richard Moore

My sentiments as well. There's a lot of great PF material that just doesn't get enough exposure.

Would be cool to see you start off with earlier records before moving to later ones so you can give us your perspective on how the band has evolved. Starting at the beginning with Piper would be great but even starting with an album like Meddle and moving through their legendary 70s releases would be instructive.

Paul Mouradjian

$0.02. Not that anyone cares... .so why bother posting. 😆 I never saw PF as prog at all....ever nada. They are Psychedelic, very similar to Spirit here in the States. Back to your regularly scheduled programming.

I feel like DSOTM is the album that “should” win but probably won’t because everyone is so familiar with it that they’ve convinced themselves it’s passé. Even though it’s a masterpiece. WYWH has a couple duds in the middle and Animals is a fairly straightforward rock album for the band. But in the end I like them all so, no real losing.

Shawn Hegarty

If either Animals or Dark Side wins, I think Doug should be at a piano/keyboard when reacting. I think he'll find some of Rick's progressions fun.

Not only I like the animals album…cool…I'm surprised and happy

Paul Lowder

Given the choice I would have chosen the Division Bell or Momentary Lapse as they’re my favourites- casual PF fan here. Went for Animals as I heard it recently and liked it.

Great Scott

Seeing as it's probably not going to be The Wall -- if it were to be the wall, it might be better to review the Movie, or maybe the Roger Waters The Wall concert film. But it's not going to be it, so it doesn't matter.

Andy McKinney

Dude you shudna got rid of Meddle. Kerry Livgren from Kansas cites it as one of his favourite albums in his autobiography and I love it too. After that IMHO Dark Side and Wish You Were Here.

Andy McKinney

I never saw the big fuss about Spirit. Just like the Grateful Dead, Grand Funk Railroad and Vanilla Fudge. Hype hype hype.

Paul Mouradjian

Andy, we can respectfully agree to disagree. Randy California was anything but hype. One of America's Amazing modern musicians and songwriters . I am not sure how Spirit falls in with those other groups. Hype? I disagree completely & vehemently! Your bias is obviously in another areas of music. Good day.

Juan Ignacio Quesada

At this point it is clear that Animals will get the spot. I voted AHM but I love all 5 albums listed here so I am good with either one. I think Doug will find Animals lyrics quite interesting.

Old Rocker

Meddle is a fantastic album, but Doug has already done Echoes which makes up half of the album. For me its a virtual tie between Echoes and Shine on you Crazy Diamond parts I-IX as the very best of Pink Floyd.

Andy Ambrose

...just glad DSOTM isn't winning...Animals will be great

I am hooting and hollering with excitement for Animals. It's my personal favorite Floyd album and I think it's probably the one that will give Doug the most to talk about. This is gonna rock

Ian Raine

Agree Juan. I was tossing up between Animals & WYWH, but in the end, I don't think Animals gets enough credit.

Juan Ignacio Quesada

I love Animals despite voting for AHM. I got amazed the Dogs version Roger Water did back in his 2001 tour. With soround sound in an open soccer stadium.

Alan Shaffer

WYWH has some of the most beautiful music PF has ever composed. A

PK

Animals is my favorite Floyd album, so will be happy with that. Voted atom heart mother because i think it’s amazing, interesting, and generally overlooked tune though.
