Hello all. It's time to start voting for the next Extended Play Lounge. Pink Floyd and Haken make it into this round of polling due to their 2nd and 3rd place finish last time. The three new bands are all more modern prog bands that I've enjoyed recently: Spock's Beard, Transatlantic, and Marillion.

This poll is dropping on October 8. We'll run this round through the 11th. Then, we'll pick an album (or other extended listen) from the winning band.

Happy voting!

Gotta vote for Marillion, but choosing the album (out if those first 4 with Fish) is the tough part!

Jeannine Doyle

Don’t forget early Queen, Doug, especially Orge Battle

Andrew Lamont

So that's Pink Floyd then Transatlantic confirmed early doors.

Anonymous

I am gonna suggest Larks Tongues in Aspic or Red by King Crimson for a future poll!

Dennis Rees

Going to have to add Magenta and Big Big Train to the band vote list one of these days.

John Clark

Surely the answer is Clutching at Straws? It's more awesome than something that is awesoMe with a capital M.

Bryan Tursk

Hoping for Pink Floyd on this poll. Cheers to Friday y'all

Garance A Drosehn

I'd love to hear a commentary on "Dogs" by Pink Floyd, but I voted for Marillion because there are several different songs which I think would be a great choice for this channel.

Juan Ignacio Quesada

Definitely Dark Side of the Moon deserves a reaction

Anonymous

Gotta be Transatlantic

Garance A Drosehn

... a little odd to see Haken listed here, given that *today's* video was a song from Haken.

Anonymous

isn't Pink Floyd kind of mainstream for a "reaction" video? 🤔

Paul Mouradjian

Spock's Beard "Beware of Darkness" An Epic Classic.....and they Reinterpret George Harrison's tune.

Zsuzsanna Vázsonyi

As much as I like Transatlantic and Pink Floyd I just had to choose Spock's Beard this time. 😊

Randy Hammill

Depends on which Floyd album. Ummagumma isn’t very mainstream, for example.

Paul t hebert

Doug soon please poll on ambrosia album one or two , or Crack the sky, animal motet, safety in numbers or nuclear apathy. Also try Fish out of water by. Chris Squire.

Arrow2theACL

They have come in 2nd or 3rd on the last 3-4 polls. He'll get to an extended play one day.

Arrow2theACL

3 modern Prog choices. Tough to choose, but since there isn't a large number of classical Prog bands here, I think Pink Floyd is going to win in a landslide.

Martin Broten

Voted for Pink Floyd -- and hopefully not "The Wall" (not a big fan). As far as Haken goes, I'd love to do Richard Henshall's solo album "The Cocoon". Love that album. Also, would like Kate Bush's "Hounds of Love/The Ninth Wave"...well...anywhere (here or on the YouTube).

Most have not but should give Crack or Ambrosia a long listen.

Matthew Hackbert

I voted for PF here. Animals or Piper at the Gates of Dawn would be my picks. Piper is obviously more disjointed than Animals.

Len Bimeal

trnsatlantic the first cd smpt

Richard Moore

Animals or Wish You Were Here would be great PF choices. Or, coming off Fragile, maybe Ummagumma, which similarly has solo tracks by each band member. Meddle would be a top choice, too, but Doug has already done Echoes from that album (though he did a live version).

Ron Swirson

This voting is still not fixed, I just voted for all the bands listed again this go round and they all counted. Doug might need to look into this. It's obviously not as critical as an election vote but still it should be as accurate as possible.

doughelvering

I have looked in to this issue, and the short answer is that, sadly, there’s really nothing I can do about it. The polling feature on my end doesn’t give any real controls besides creating the poll itself. Hopefully, we can all play along and make it work.

Gary Thobaben

I vote for Spock’s Beard. The V record is amazing, although you’ve already heard at the end of the day. Really I just want a The Great Nothing react!

Anonymous

Too many choices. Not fair. Lol

Frank Canepa

Transatlantic. On my way to see the Neal Morse Band at the Morsefest 2021.

Anonymous

I really want you to hear you break down Karn Evil 9 all three impressions by ELP soon. Such a monster composition.

Jason Gregorius

Definitely hoping for Animals if PF wins

Anonymous

Go MARILLION go….😀😀a nice weekend to all folks

Khaled Akbik

Haken pretty please

Paul Lowder

Transatlantic. Or Marillion. Do we really need a Pink Floyd reaction? Everyone knows them, and nothing really complicated to test Dr Doug.

Artur Kinal

For me Atom Heart Mother is the only PF effort worth reaction video

Anonymous

Pink Floyd, while undeniably brilliant, are sooo yesterday. Transatlantic please!

Lars

"All of the Above".

Arpeggio Blues

Take the plunge.. SNOW by Spock's Beard.. Need a good concept album, the Lamb was great, eh?

Scott Friedman

Dark Side is always a great one to go with... or The Wall..

Anonymous

I really just want to see Doug dissect Atom Heart Mother, the orchestral parts are so good and there really is no one else with this level of insight on youtube.

Sian Podmore

TBH, I'd be very happy to hear Doug's take on any of the above, they're all great bands and well worth listening to.

Martin Broten

Since it looks like PF is running away with it, I'm thinking "Animals" or "Atom Heart Mother" might be fun...

Rhesus Perplexus

"Atom Heart Mother" And you get the bonus of hearing one of the best recorded albums of the period, sound wise. My import copy is anyways.

Anonymous

I have always liked Atom Heart Mother best of all the PF albums but seems to be alone on that 😁

Roy Torset

I have a suggestion to make.i do see that a lot of the people on here like the old prog, and i do too,but i do believe its ruining the chance of listening to the newer progressive bands.how about dividing the old and new,so you can vote between old and new seperatly.one time vote between old,and next time new.by doing it this way you dont have to wait several months to get a listen to some newer stuff🙂

Nathan-Andrew

I’d love to see a reaction that includes both versions. Although, I don’t know if Harrison’s copyright holder is a noted blocker?

Anonymous

You're not alone. Count me in on Atom Heart Mother too 😊.

Bryan Tursk

I think Pink Floyd's The Wall and Darkside are main stream for me. I'd prefer to hear a reaction to Wish You Were Here or Animals. Imho

Great Scott

Don't knock the old bands. Several of them are still around and even producing new stuff (even if they don't get airplay like they ought to), Yes is a recent example.

Ron Cook

Early Marillion with Fish as lead singer. Pink Floyd Animals (any song - they're all good).

Anonymous

Transatlantic - The Whirlwind would be epic!

Anonymous

Transatlantic - Stranger in your soul! Preferably the studio version ❤️ For me this song has everything and it is my number 1 favorite of all time 😃

Nick

Floyd it is then, I guess. Atom Heart Mother, Meddle, Wish You Were Here, Animals, The Wall would all be good options. I'm with Steven Wilson when it comes to Dark Side - he declined to talk about it on his Album Years podcast because there was nothing he could say about it that hadn't already been said!

Rick Morse

Thanks, Dr. Doug, for this ongoing Extended Play Lounge series ... thoroughly enjoying it! Although I voted for "Animals" , I won't be at all disappointed if WYWH wins.
