On Weekend Wankshop 325, Uncle Ben Eller here is gonna show you the Metallica riffs you can practice with alternate picking to become a more better shredder!!! We all know James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett are the downstroke kings, but we can adapt several of their classic clean tone riffs to serve as KILLER crosspicking etudes! Crosspicking is the technique used by players like Andy Wood, John Petrucci, Steve Morse, and monster bluegrass players like Molly Tuttle and David Grier to play lightning fast arpeggios while maintaining alternate picking. Its a very handy technique, but tough to learn since most of the examples of songs that use it are MEGA HARD! But by taking the intros to songs like Welcome Home (Sanitarium), Fade to Black, The Day That Never Comes, The Call of Ktulu, and My Friend of Misery and applying this technique to them, you can get it under your fingers fast and make it a regular part of your playing!
