For real, the bar scene had me sweating going into it.... I've become much more confident at environments in the past years and 3D models have made things 100000x easier, but still!! I'll show the 3D model breakdown of this one later, maybe when I do all this will seem way less harrowing, but let me tell you: setting up the 3D models for this scene was a TRIAL lol.

Coloring this page was initially SO HORRIBLE and setting the palette took forever!!! I originally thought to make it a split between pink (Percy-coded color for this scene) and teal (Cameron-coded color for this scene) and just completely gave up and cut out the pink. Percy is entering a space on Cameron's terms so I ultimately decided that everything should be cool teal and white with pops of yellow (also kind of a Cameron color, for his hair and also the color of his magic). I'm sharing my first half-processed attempt so you know that color doesn't actually come very naturally to me 😭😔

If you look at the lines-only version of this page, you can see all the line colors I've been doing in this chapter, which is kind of a new thing. Instead of really strong shadows to give depth and contrast, I've been trying to colorize the lines to push important things forward and everything else back.

I've been playing around with making all background line-work a color paler than black to push important characters forward. Also textures that might be a bit too strong (such as the leaf work on Fortuna), which I think makes unimportant things less visually distracting to look at.
