Haha... I still like this one. I feel like we might break panel 2 into 2 panels if we did it today.  Panel 3 is based on a real photo, you can still see it on the main site.

It's hard to tell, but if you look closely you'll see that Yuko used to draw Conrad's hair like it's a hedgehog-- there are little eyes at the front.

The stat card as a joke– pretty sure the first place I saw this kind of thing was in one of Bryan Lee O'Malley's comics? Like the idea to use them as a stupid joke. I read his internet comics while I was in college and they just got stuck in my brain. It was the way his characters talked.

Confession time: I fell in and out of reading comics a lot as a kid! I probably got back into it most seriously during college and especially after college. In 2003 I was browsing at a comic shop for the first time in like... 10 years or something, and I saw Lost at Sea on the shelf and did a huge double-take. Were these comics by the same guy whose comics I had read online? I was doing a webcomic at the time, but this was different. There was a notion back then that posting comics online was for amateurs and publishing comics in the 'real' world was for pros. Kind of like how our interior internet life used to be separate from our real life.

Obviously now the internet overlaps with everything and that's cool and also deeply sucks, and we see millions of connections like they've always been there, but it hasn't been the case for that long. At the time, finding Lost at Sea in a store was one of the things that helped a big fat puzzle piece go CLICK.
