Building the Page: Ch 5 / Pg. 4 (Patreon)

I was already 90% done with writing this one and then patreon completely deleted it while I was inserting a link so this one might be a little shorter than usual simply because I'm leaving for an appointment soon and I'm running short on time haha

HELLO AND WELCOME TO HALE'S MAGIC SHOW

Chapter 5 / Page 4 is the first time we get to see 1.) writ magic being used 2.) a huge spell being implemented properly on-screen, so we wanted to make it FLASHY!!!! We knew from the beginning we wanted writ magic to be extremely finite - and what's more finite than dramatically setting a spell on fire!!!!!

One thing I was excited to play with was organic brushes and really saturated colors - but both of those things already existed in chapter 3, when Death shows up! (note: the Barbarous Chapter 3 collection kickstarter is going on RIGHT NOW, it'll look really cool when it's printed!!) I wanted to make sure that the visual presentation of both scenes read as similarly emotional peaks, but unrelated situations. I tried to leave the other scene COLD and CONFINED, and have this one HOT and SPREAD OUT.

I don't want to talk about much here that would give away further plot points so I'll share one thing: when designing Hale, he was meant to slightly evoke Harry Potter. In fact, his first name is Harrison. :X
